Like Scratch, the Beach Boys' "Surfer Girl" was the first album I bought.

The first record I bought was "Hound Dog" by Elvis.

A Nat King Cole album. I have no idea which one. But it was for my dad at Christmas. He thought Nat was just the most wonderful singer. Now years later I also think Nat King Cole is also a wonderful singer. What a great, smooth delivery.

The first album I bought for myself was a Slim Dusty album, maybe Australiana or Cattle Camp Crooner. He is a legend is this part of the world.

I also. What I did not appreciate until I started digging into his catalog is what a great piano player he was. His early King Cole Trio recordings (Cole on piano, with bass and guitar) are worth a listen.

I remember going into this little record and poster shop when I was 9 and buying the "45" American Woman" by the Guess Who.
I figured out the beginning riff on a violin tuned like a four string guitar. I loved that tune. :D

Great singles band! First one of theirs I loved was "Undun". And don't forget "Hand me Down World" and "No Time".

*I can only wonder who's the oldest member here.

I couldn't possibly be that oldest but, I can remember playing "TRANFUSION" by Nervous Novus, over and over on my dad's record player 'til I memorized every word. 8)

I started putting together songs for solo guitar last year and had to include 'Shes Come Undone'.
  • Archtop, That was a great album. I really liked 'Killer' as well. My younger brother has been a super fan for years. He's been to probably been to more Alice concerts than anyone alive.... and that's no exaggeration. Probably has one of the most extensive Alice Cooper memorabilia anywhere. This year in his 50's (he's a cop) he finally caught Alice's cane  !

We're dating ourselves with our answers, but what a fun question!

My first 45: Soupy Sales "Do the Mouse" b/w "Pachalafaka" (with picture sleeve). Me and a friend won a canoe race at summer camp and the prize was a pair of gift certificates to our town record store. It took me a couple hours to choose between the Soupy 7" and Bobby "Boris" Pickett's "Monster Mash."

My first LP: The Beach Boys Today I put this on my birthday "wish list" and my uncle Jimmy came through!

Wow - this goes way back! My first two albums (which I requested for Christmas) were Elvis' Golden Records, and The Coasters Greatest Hits (had a very cool Les Paul goldtop on the cover). The first album I bought on my own was Chuck Berry's On Top. The first 45 I bought was Santo & Johnny's Sleepwalk - still one of my all time favorites.

:D Only discovered that one about 20 years after the fact, but definitely has a slot on the "All Time Greats" list!
Wonder how many other artists that influenced?
