"Turn, Turn, Turn" The Byrds. Still a fan.

I was working my way down the thread, thinking I couldn't really recall. But when I read this the light went on. Not an album, but I think this was the first record I ever purchased. First album might be "Rubber Soul", but I was a big Beach Boys fan, too. So it may have been something by them.

1965. I splurged & bought 2 albums at the same time: the Ventures and Lovin' Spoonful's "Daydream"

Ventures- "Walk Don't Run" '64 and "Meet the Beatles"- learned to play guitar on my Sears $19 Silvertone at the same time. Destroyed most of my albums playing lead and rhythm lines over and over with the songs playing.

I seem to recall a few "blurry" decades, too.

I don't really recall my "blurry" decades.

First album ever was the Venture's "Walk Don't Run" but, when I was finally able to purchase my very first bonafide stereo system, I picked up "Black Sabbath" and Carole King's "Tapestry" the same day.

I was the correct caller into a radio station when I was about 8 years old, and won the Beach Boys Endless Summer on vinyl back in the '70's. Only thing I think I've ever "won", but boy what a great thing to win!
Southernguild, why ashamed of Alice Cooper's BBB? That's a great album!

OK... I'll admit it, It was Alice Cooper's Schools Out (1972 and I was 11) followed by a bunch of T-REX, Mott The Hopple and Humble Pie. Can't say (or admit) that I listen to much Alice Cooper these days... but the other still show up on Shuffle on the iPod.

My first purchase was a single by Herman's Hermits.
   Me too!! In fact, that whole question points up the generation gap of a mere 4 years, since I'd bet anybody here born before 1960 bought a BUNCH of 45's before they ever bought an album...and I've still got a bunch of 'em! And I'd say by about '75 when the class of '60-'65 were hitting their record buying prime, 45's were pretty much a dead medium, the album was the new basic ticket. Thank the Beatles and Sgt. Pepper for the era of the "concept" album...and the industry was never the same.
Sooooo.....lesseeee.....oh yeah: "Dandy", "Don't Go out into the Rain", "No Milk Today" by Herman's Hermits; "Pleasant Valley Sunday"(Monkees); "Windy" (do I need to tell you?)..."Blue's Theme" ( Davie Allen & the Arrows ) "Hair" (Cowsills) ( )
"The Good the Bad & the Ugly " (Booker T & the MG's)....but first album with my very own hard-earned cash? In fact I think it was "In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida" ... , BOY this is startin' to kick off memories...and I was already primed, so,
I'm gonna go start a nostalgia thread right now. :D

Mid to late 50s our family was buying LPs. I remember several Harry Belafontes, a couple Tom Lehrers, Count Basie, Glenn Miller, Sarah Vaughn, Tommy Dorsey, Lena Horne etc. Racking my brain trying to remember the top clarinet player back then. I think I bought 1 or 2 45s and can't remember what they were. Course I'm wicked old. :)

First album I owned - bought by my parents to mollify me when they wouldn't let me go see The Beach Boys in Sacramento, CA in 1966 as an 8 year old.

First two albums I spent my own money for. Bought at the record department at Sears in Radnor, PA ($3.99, maybe?). Yes, the Through The Past Darkly is the octagonal cover. Still have them all, but they are barely playable, thanks to my parents '60's vintage console record player.

Sigh.

8) Ahh the Clash, Combat Rock. Those were some good days....
I laugh as I recall that I purchased that one on cassette a total of three times in a short perid of time.
The first was worn out from play on the car stereo, the second was 'borrowed' ( long term) by a ( short term)girlfriend, and the third just melted and warped itself useless after being left on the cars dashboard on day that summer.
Good memories though.
"Know your rights..."

I REMEMBER that FrijidPink album and the first time I heard the "House of the Rising Sun" cover! That's what my 13 year old ears were lookin' for!
I never actually bought it though..because back then I'd already experienced the "one hit song and the rest of the album just don't cut it" syndrome a couple of times too many...and there were never enough bucks to just take too many chances on a whole album, right?
(and no such thing as trading at a used record store in my neck of suburbia..)

I think my first single was "I Feel Fine" by the Beatles, not 100% sure...but no question my first album was "Help!"...$3.79 in Mono at the Giant (quasi-dept-store) in Fitchburg, cheapest price around!

I think this record album came out around 1977. I was in the 7th Grade and this was probably my favorite at the time. Candle was a Contemporary Christian Band incorporated with Agape~Force. Candle was probably my first introduction to music performed by a band.
