Great video Scratch! Incredible part of the country! 8) :D

C'mon down Randy; we'll do Ninfa's. Still busking/gigging out?
Thanks kindly for the invite Ken...I would love to take you up on it someday when time allows.
I am playing with a wild worship group now and having a blast. I play bass sometimes, my 12 string and also run the soundboard on ocassion. The coffee house scene never happened. Too many cancelled at the last minute practices. Busking is a spring fall kinda thing...love to play outside and meet new folks.
Texas has always had a place in my heart and I did drive through part of it on my way to Phoenix one year (when I was driving truck). That was the best trip I ever made. Loved New Mexico as well.
BTW what's a Ninfa? :?:

If I may....last I heard, it was a Mexican restaurant chain.
First one was, I believe, in Houston.
Ken will be along soon to clarify, confirm, or deny.

Joe

I think the one Ken is referring to is just a small Mexican food place owned by a Hispanic lady on Canyon Lake Joe. Not too far from his house.

I remember Ken mentioning the possibility of a Ninfa's visit last year when Cindy and I stopped by.
Next time!

Gary: Always wanted to meet you since I joined up here nearly five years ago. Why don't you come on up from faaaaar south Texas and visit? Longneck or ice tea on the front porch and if we happen to catch the full moon, we'll have a stogie, glass of Texas red and listen to the coyotes howl as we pick a few tunes...

A Texas Road Trip !

Visit you, West, Harry, Toni, Ridge and others. I can't tell you how much I'd love to do that. Regretfully though, I never will.

Like Kenny, if I had to pick one guy here I'd like to meet......could only pick one, it would be you Gary. I've wanted to meet you ever since you and I first talked over a disagreement. You've made me laugh ever since. In fact, my dream get together would feature a bunch of these Guild guys and you and Darryl. Something tells me if I got you and Hatted Frau together, the entertainment would be on......we wouldn't even need guitars. I can't tell you how much I miss you and Darryl going at it almost daily here in such good natured and comical ways. Ah, those were the days.

I think Graham would tell you that he enjoyed renting a vehicle in Dallas, spending a couple nights down south, visiting with Russ in Austin, Ken in Canyon Lake, a couple of nights here in the northeast part of the state, and with Harry in Fort Worth. Killdeer did the same thing, though he didn't stay any nights, he just drove the state and stopped long enough to pick a few songs. But we're always open for visitors.

You come here anytime Gary, you've got a place to stay, and we'll take care of the food and beverage.

They all over the place in West Texas. Isn't that how Kinky Friedman made his money? At least some of it.

Ken now I am confused. I always thought Ninfa's was a chain. There are several in Houston, one in Waco, one in College Station, and at least one in San Antonio (?). Are they independent or maybe a franchise? I remember the one in Waco helped me get through college.

I alluded to that just a few posts back, so count me among the confused.

There is a chain called Ninfa's, I understand with restaurants in Houston. Sandy owns the Canyon Lake Ninfa's restaurant. She owned three others in the hill country but sold them all and kept the lake place. She named it after her mom who's picture and bio are on the back of her menus...

West, your comments give me a nice warm inner buzz and, I have absolutely no doubt that I'd treasure the memories of the Texas Trip if I was ever able to do it. Kiwis too are renowned for their graciousness and friendliness so, it seems like a match made in heaven.

Texas has fascinated me for a long time. It's a little mind blowing to think that your state is several times larger than our country !

And, to have Hattie there as well !! We'd all have the greatest of times, I know it. 8) :D

Ninfa's as a chain. There was one restaurant. The name was licensed and the "chain" was eventually sold. The original was purchased by a different corporate entity. At present "There are still "Ninfa's Mexican Restaurants" in Houston and elsewhere operated by independent owners who previously received licenses to use the name".

However since Scratch's Ninfa is named after the owner's mother, there is no connection unless mom was Ninfa Rodríguez Laurenzo.
