Next time, swing by the Hill Country and let's sit and pick a spell, Walter...

Wouldn't mind doing some backpacking, Poser. C'mon down; we'll pack a couple of Guilds and head out thataway. Them Guadalupe's are the suburbs of the Texas Hill Country...

Well....we must have driven through quite a bit of it seeing we drove from Austin to Alpine twice, no? My next visit to TX will most likely be a holiday in Austin as soon as I can afford the time and the plane tickets - and I'll make sure to let LTG know, in case any LTG'ers might be around there then!

While there's no Continental Club or Broken Spoke, Marfa is an amazing place in Texas that's too often overlooked.

Ever see 'The Marfa Lights', Hideglue? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marfa_lights

Here you go.

rt2010camii290.jpg

Guadalupe Peak, highest point in Texas

I'm sure it's still there. 8)

Joe

Still free from the windfarms, thank goodness, which is more than I can say for much of west Tejas. At last count more than 2,400 eagles butchered by those murdering GE machines.

They're real killers. You can multiply that number of dead birds several times over.

Imagine an entire ridge covered with these slicing machines! :x

Put more into solar and scrap these &*!#@.

Thanks for the invite Scratch, maybe someday -

I'm a geologist. The Guadalupe Mts contain a fossil reef that's about 250 million years old. It's one of those classic localities that's described in nearly every sedimentology and paleontology text.

McKittrick canyon has some of the best exposures - or so they say.

Any and all of you are welcome down here anytime. I know people from Texas have a reputation for bragging, so I will. I think if you asked most Texans what they are most proud of you, they would say the hospitality shown folks who visit here. If you ask most folks who've visited, they'll tell you the hospitality shown them. There is great pride taken here to accomodate people and we make that our mission. And yes, it makes me very proud.

Could I borrow your D55 for a couple of months to see what all the rosewood fuss is about?
