A Tale of Two '50s GA40 Les Pauls ...and a GA40 tweed dragon.
Two GA40s ... both in Tampa FL ... and both on/off Craigslist and eBay:
LP(a) on Craigslist (also now on eBay) looks like this:
and
LP(b) on Craigslist for Best Offer looks like this:
Both in good/vg condition with mostly/all original parts showed up about 3 months ago at the same time with asking prices +/- $1,600 which is pretty much consistent with the GA40 prices recorded in this thread ... but as they were breaking from the gate, neither of them sold. Since then, the two have spiralled down in price to the point where LPa currently has an
eBay BIN/BO of $900 and LPb is just plain looking for offers.
The amp was was produced in four cosmetic versions with the '60-'62 tweed versions typically selling for less than the original (LPs a & b above), maroon over nubby tan/white fabric, and the black over tweed like Mad Dog's. (original not shown below and caption on
source webpage has a mistake; the two on the bottom are mid-
'50s, not mid-
'60s)
Enter the dragon and with an absolutely killer auction presentation of text and pics: a '60-'62 collector/museum-grade tweed that sold for an eye-popping
$3,650 on eBay  and it looks like ......
Their original aversion to shipping put the two GA40 sellers in price competition; hoping to sell locally, their amps appear shop/eye-worn ... the Gibson market is so sluggish, it's hard to tell whether the collapse in price is a market or a seller thing .... but the dragon proves that A+ gear still brings A+ prices ... wow.
