So, put a set of gold Grovers on it when you get it, or ask Guild if they'll do it for you.

I'm just sayin' :D

Good point Joe. I suppose if the only are making 20 of them, and you wanted gold Grover tuners, they'd probably accomodate you.....reckon? Wonder what they're asking for those little jewels......bout $4000? Steal one for about $3500?

A Koa Tacoma Guitar came in on consignment at the local shop. It was a very tempting guitar, very nice voice, priced at $1000. Lasted about a week & gone.

I like the look of open back tuners, particularly Waverlies. My CO1 has a set of Gotoh 700 tuners, they work great. The Gotohs have nylon (rubber??) friction washers, you can see them in this pic. I suspect there's another similar washer underneath the ring gear.

Waverlies & Grover stat-tites don't have these synthetic friction washers. I'm guessing the Waverlies & Grovers are machined to significantly finer tolerances.

I'll bet that if you have the money, they'll find the time to accommodate a small request like that! Give it a shot....what's to lose?

BTW, I like closed/sealed Grovers, too.

Well throw me in the "open-back" tuner camp! :D Aesthetically, I like the vintage look of the open-backs. My GAD has Grover Sta-Tite 18:1s on it and they work very nicely. I have closed tuners on every thing else. I have toyed with the idea of converting the smaller body guitars to open-backs but have not pulled the trigger. I like the idea of my guitars as being all original. 8)

My 1935 Martin R-18 had open gear tuners on it and they worked flawlessly in 2008 when I sold it (dumb move). My 1917 Gibson A4 mandolin has them as well although they are a bit difficult to work with. I'd say you can get a good 80-90 years out of them with no troubles and that's enough for me.
I like the look too.

"Lose?"
If the purchase isn't mandatory, it can't be considered a loss, per se, and if you're a collector, it's considered an investment.
Do you look at your great wall of guitars and think about how much you've lost on those beauties?
I'll bet you don't.

Gee, sounds like I'm working on commission,

For what Its worth, ( and that aint worth much) I too like the open back tuners..
I REALLY like the aged silver look. Silver that has a bit of a dull, worn look about it. Not the shiney NEWchrome look. Twocorgis has a Martin with Waverly butterbeans on her..THOSE are the tuners I LIKE!! SO much so, that i "MAY" actually "AGE" my Gotohs ( on my GAD30) in such a fashon ( a bit of gentle steel wool will do the trick :D )
Like anything.......we all have our personal tastes to appease. no real absolutes in it.

Those Waverlys are considered to be "Antique Nickel", and I really like the retro vibe of them

The Gotohs on the D40 have a similar finish. Nice! :D

Well West, there's two of them on Gbase that have probably been there for a while as they're listed as Brand New. Here, and here. Hey, you might as well lowball 'em. The way high end guitars (don't) move in this economy, you never know...

Yeah if your lucky, they may take $3950!
BTW, love the butterbean knobs on the openbacks.

Anybody know what "GSR" stands for?

West

Guild Small Run IIRC.
Certainly, that's what it means, but I think it's actually "Guild Select Reserve." Not 100% sure. Dave G. told us at the factory...

At first we thought it was Guild Summit Reserve (these guitars sprang partly from the dealer summit held in the fall of last year), but I think it's meant to be more general.

After doing a little more research, from the Guild web site: This limited special run version of the F-50 model... So I guess GSR stands for Guild Special Run. 8)

I like the closed back tuners.....mostly just for looks. I changed mine out but went with Gotoh 510s of the same dimensions. I did not want to put any new holes in my headstock. I have closed Grovers on my Les Paul and they are very nice too. They have a very smooth feel but very huge looking. Maybe too much bulk for a smaller acoustic.
