I'm not saying I can sing but I do it anyway. I find it easier to play the notes I'm singing ala George Benson. For examples, my jamband plays Pretzel Logic and Low Spark Of High Heeled Boys and I sing both. I play the melody at a low a volume as I can and still hear it a little and it almost keeps me on key. lol

I can play lead and sing but most of the riffage is done as fills and stuff that carries on under my voice is just easy and I guess I've been playing lead so long I don't have to think about it.

There is a Dead tune we play, China Cat, where Jerry's part is essentially a bassline and it took me a long time to be able to sing that and play the riff at the same time. Another one is the end of Hey Bulldog, Beatles, I double the bassline at the coda and it's hard for me to maintain that and sing just the backup "Hey Bulldog" line. I often blow out of it then just punt and vamp on the B7 chord.

Our bassist can sing lead on songs with a fairly easy bassline.

Maybe I should have been playing a Kent guitar.

Now THATS what I'm talkin' 'bout! Kent-branded guitars were pretty common here...not so much blondes like her though, must be a California shot...

Since I was the chief vocalist in our group, I would either just sing, or sing playing rhythm guitar. I found playing Dobro or steel guitar impossible
while singing, but our original bass player got quite good at playing and singing at the same time. Later, in the Wigbillies, I would play uke when I had vocals. Often I'll work out a vocal on ukulele or tenor guitar even if I wrote the song on another instrument in the first place. In fact, it's hard for me not to sing while playing uke!

Oddly, I never had a huge issue playing guitar and singing -- it takes some practice, but its not too bad. Playing Piano and singing?? Never could pull that one off.

When I first learned to play guitar, I had this scene in mind (but with more girls listening to me play). It did not happen.

As did I, and in my case it worked: A tall beautiful brunette walked into our standing 6 pm Saturday folk mass gig at the behest of my buddy Dave, there to sing with us. I was a worldly high school sophomore, she an 8th grader.

I thought it was in bad taste to pursue her right then and there given our age difference, but stayed in touch, and shortly after she finished college, I hornswoggled convinced her to marry me

That was 40 years ago last Sunday.

Wonder where he plugs that thing in, at the beach…

Maybe the ad means that girls should keep an eye on him to do something weird and uncool, then ditch him for a guy who plays a Guild.

Think about all those old Fender ads...where were those guitars "plugged in"...:p
