The Good
When I took the case out turns out it's not the tweed case but a pretty nice black case...but gee...it seems a bit big...
The Bad
I opened the case and got my M20 from it's Gig Bag to put it inside the case...
and The Ugly
damn it...it's too big! I am NOT happy. Doing further research I find that
•the packing slip has the part # I was given by Guild and therefore ordered, 0065671-000...seeing the dash between the #s I get a sinking feeling...000...CRAP! Was I given the wrong part #?
•doing some research I find the label on the box says part # 0065671000 VALENCIA TKL...
•the tag on the actual case does NOT have that part # but does have the Valencia #...
The REALLY Ugly
Tomorrow morning I'll start with a call to Parts Guru...

Damn, Joan

I feel your pain. I thought that the F20 that I bought on Saturday had a proper case, upon closer examination it too, is too big, which set me off on a search of my own. This morning I caught this eBay auction with a case that has two broken latches but is "repairable". I went to talk to our guys in the machine shop at our office and they said they could fix it no problem. By the time I got back to my computer to just buy the whole guitar, the seller had ended the auction. Damn!

Amazing you have to buy a whole guitar just to get a (crappy) case!

Just checked your ebay link, I'm betting that is the CL guitar I was looking at in FL. He sent me the email yesterday morning but I didn't get it until tonight. He said he'd installed a Fishman rare earth PU and the ebay guitar is/was in FL...I'll probably be getting an email soon telling me he's sold it. joan

Small world, eh? I'm wondering. Did he tell you that there were two latches broken on the case? Those cases really do look like junk.

Hey John, did you find out the name of that company in Vancouver that makes custom cases? I feel a group buy coming on here!

Might be a good score, you'd get the case & the Fishman.
Don't remember exactly what I paid for mine...it's the humbucker........$179 seems to ring a bell,,, since this picture I had it hardwired to an endpin jack.

Might have been a great score, if either of us had actually gotten it! Really it was probably too good (and inexpensive) to be true. Hopefully the seller pulled the auction so Joan could get it. She saw it first.

Hmmmmm, you're right it's a smidge on the tight side. I'd be tempted to try one though just in 'case' (sorry) it may be that the padding and lining may just give a little.

Plus TKL make cases for the American Guilds, but do they also make 'em for GAD's?, I doubt it somehow. So if they don't who does? Someone, somewhere must know, maybe Elderly?

Cheese Joan ... :( The first bar-coded label says Case Valencia TKL 5246/BL and the other tag indicates TKLA5246/BL (CV-1) .... suggesting your case would fit this eBay F40 (Valencia) CV-1

Hi Solenoid; chances are that GAD cases are made in the same place GADs are made so that US-bound GADs are already in their cases when they arrive as opposed to the G-men unpacking in-bound GADs and mating them with domestically-made cases. Asian-made 'Guardian' cases at Elderly. Guardian is one of Karura's (China) product lines .... whether Karura makes GAD cases ...???

Similar advice was given to someone who wanted an original Hagstrom bi-sonic for a Starfire bass.

Monday morning's report

I just got off the phone with Corey at MusicParts Guru. He's being great. He told me how to return the case to them which I will do this afternoon. We've got two options, if the part # I was first given is incorrect and Corey can get the correct part # then I can get the correct case and 100% of what I've paid will be applied to the new case. If that is not the situation and the part # they have is just wrong, he'll have to return the case to Guild and will have to pass on the 30% restocking on to me. stay tuned...jm

also
•no word from the CL seller so I'm assuming he put the F20 on ebay and someone else bought it.
•I talked with Oasis, they found my master CD which had been separated from the envelope. It was inbetween cardboard and had my business card taped on the cardboard. Somehow the printed page I had in the envelope with the order # etc was separated from the CD. I could have asked why they didn't just call me when they didn't have the paperwork since my # and email were on the card but no sense in going there. It will take 5 days to print the jacket and they'll upgrade the shipping at no charge to me so I'll get it sometime next week.

the sun is out, we've got a blue Carolina sky and I'm heading out to enjoy the day. joan

Joan, I certainly hope that you don't have to pay a 30% restocking fee; that would suck! I did a little research of my own, and talked to a nice fellow named Dennis at Cedar Creek Cases. He said that they can build a custom case to our specs (one of their 500 series) for $299, which I know is kind of expensive, but I think I might go for it. It would be an exact fit, and much better quality than the GAD case in my estimation. He said if we could get a few of them together he'd knock 10% off the price (still expensive, I know). Any interest amongst the F/M owners here?

That's too bad. I figured that when he ended the auction, he sold it to you. The auction was ended by him as far as I can tell, and the guitar wasn't listed on Craigslist to the best of my knowledge. I use a national CL search engine, and it doesn't turn up there. Maybe the original CL buyer ended up taking it after all.

Thank you for doing the leg-work Two, but that price is just hideous !! Pass from me.

Nice cases though ......... I went there a couple of days ago on an F20 mission.

I don't know. The way I look at it is that I plan on owning this guitar for a long time. If you take that $300 and spread it over twenty years or so, it's not that bad I guess.

Agreed. I think the Vancouver company that John was talking about that makes customs at reasonable prices was Datt cases. Sadly, they no longer seem to be in business. :(

I know a geezer in Florida.

Thanks Deafold.

Might be some possibilities there. Come to think of it, Joan's probably already done this! :D
