As I've mentioned before, I teach college level courses. I've even taught a course on "the social history of rock and roll". The fact is, kids today don't know some of my favorite artists, and I don't know some of theirs. Sounds like me and my parents. As it's been for decades, it shall always be.

Ravon made a good point (we are almost the age, ravon!) - I have been getting into newer bands, like Porcupine Tree (or Steven Wilson in any form), Redemption (heavy, but melodic), and a few others. So there's new stuff out there for everyone if you can find it.

As I've discussed with students, my problem with rap and hip hop is I simply cannot relate to the issues their lyrics speak about, their lifestyle, their degradation of women, and what I think is monotonous rhythm. But that's my problem, and a lot of young people love it, so good for them!

And yes, adorshki, I also think Lennon would have been one of the "27 club" if he did not meet Yoko. She didn't break up the Beatles, she saved one of them!
