To the eye, fret hammering did not make a visual difference. The few still looked popped up in the middle.
Immediately after, it was sounding worse!!
So I let the Starfire stand for a few days in the case at tension with neck set really straight and got 6/64 action on it. Thus/Fri/Sat/Sun.
I figured I needed the nut end of the finger board action lower and the bridge side higher to help with the issue.
Monday it is now 90% better, which makes me think this is a neck/weather issue.
Puzzling, but glad it is very playable again. I still don't know for sure what was going on.
