I'm the proud owner of an 1980 F50R and might I add, it's a beauty to behold and to play!!

I would like a small bodied Guild but do not know of any particlular models I shold be looking for.

Would appreciate any advice and opinions.

Regards

Bill

You've got Rosewood. Maybe you'd want Maple or Hog.

Also, how small?

F65ce's are incredible guitars. But they're only about
3 1/2 inches deep.

I own two of 'em. They sound great and they play even better.
They're hard to find though.

F47's are nice instruments too.

maybe F-20, F-30, GF 25, GF-30?

I'd agree with all of these & also add the M20, F112 (why not a 12 string!) and the A25.

All of these are small-ish to mini jumbo in size/shape.

the best small bodied guild i've ever heard was a hoboken f-30. could be hard to find, but well worth the hunt.

I've been drooling over this one, it's just more money than I can spend on another guitar right now.

Russ D has a Rosewood F30, I think it's a Westerly, dang nice guitar. Russ scored a beautiful Rosewood A 50 in Arlington, I can't temember if anyone got pics.

Hey Bill,

I'm just over the water from you and I've got a Hoboken F30 arriving sometime soonish which you are welcome to a play of if you're ever over this way. In Greymouth Coastie has a really sweet Hoboken F20. Might be a nice road trip for you !!

Cheers, Ian.

hey bluesdan..
that hoboken f-30 looks like the one. seems a little pricey to me too.

my buddy has one just like it, amazing guitar...as much bass as a dread.
he was teaching guitar lessons and got a call one nite from a student...her husband had bought her a brand new shiny Yamaha, and since there was a crack in the top of her old guitar he was gonna throw it out !
he ran over there was got a mark II classical and the F-30 ...for free !

well, they were old...and cracked.

Man.....why can't stuff like that happen to me?!
Great story. I love stuff like that.

I bet the F-30 at Sylvan is worth every penny, replaced pickguard and all. Just not within my budget right now. Some day.....

still...you'd have to play it first, especially at that price.
some are better than others.

Hey Bluesdan & WIW,

Is that F30 sold ? Also whats up with the nut width: 1 5/8 not 1 11/16 (or am I in for a suprise when mine arrives ???). Frosty was saying in another thread that's there's quite some variation in these Hoboken F30's.....

Cheers, Ian

Hi Ian,
As far as I can tell, that F30 is still for sale. Like WiW said though, at THAT price, you would really have to play it first. I play Ebay roulette with guitars and have been pretty lucky but I would never pay premium without hands on. Can't help you with the nut width question, maybe someone else will chime in.

Ian,

usually those were built for fingerstyle, wide board and nut....but i suppose the nut could have been changed, or measured wrong, or another example of the endless variations in guilds.
if you contact the guy to see if it's still available you could have him measure it again.

i'd still want to play it first, or have a money back guarantee.
I have one of the 90's reissues f-30, built to the same specs as the hoboken models...but dead as a doornail.

Hey WIW,

Sorry to hear that about your F30, didn't play it first huh ? I wont be chasing that F30, I already have one underway, luckily played by an LTGer and confirmed good, so here's hoping !!

F20's and 30's do seem to be hard to find though, and expensive !! The problem that we have here in NZ is that they are very rare so it's hard to know if the size suits or not. I was dead keen on an F20 until I played one and found it just too small for me. I'm hoping the F30 works out right, but I'm judging the size on a GAD F30R, which at least you can find to play locally.

Another non Guild suggestion for Vintage 52 would be the Martin 000, 00 or OM models. Plenty of those to try in Wellington !!

Cheers, Ian
