Chris Isaak, August of 2004 (?); spectacular summer evening concert on the Seattle waterfront. The overall mood for the evening was....mellow! 8)

Afterward, we just walked up to our hotel, two blocks away.

Loud, crowded, close quarters vs outdoors, mellow, summer evening air.... 8)
You have to remember that the Beatles hadn't really arrived, yet, and the cosmos was lined up differently, too!

*Other factors apply but I think you get the drift.

November of 1977... Norman, Oklahoma. It was The Eagles, Hotel California Tour, with new member Joe Walsh. Awesome.

Hey Dread. Those are the 2 groups ( 2 of my favs. ) that I never did get to see. My sister had tickets to the up coming Zep show , but then bonham passed :(
Overall I have seen probably close to 200 big events. Everything from from Sanborn to Henry Rollins. For raw energy Rollins, Violent Fems ( they certainly live up to there name)
Pure Rock and Roll Bob Seger
My all time Favorite in large venue is Elton John
My all time favorite in small venue ( 2000 and under ) Phil Collins. It was after his 1st solo album came out and I was about 7 rows back in the Tower Theater. His talent just blew me away :D

My favorite concert was a Bluegrass Festival that was a 2 day event.
It was held in beautiful Park City Utah.
Some of the top names in Bluegrass were there.
It was the week following the big Telluride Colorado Bluegrass Festival.
All of the acts from Telluride also played at Park City.

Consistently and repeatedly, Brian Setzer, anywhere anytime

Elvis, Denver Colorado, shortly after the Aloha concert, still skinny

Surprisingly, Harry Belafonte, Las Vegas early 70's with a south american guitar player that had the crowd on their feet consistently shouting out his name, Sabuca! Sabuca! (or something like that) and he looked like Santa Calaus.

Brad,
Many thanks for that name correction. I don't know what the guy sounds like on a record, but, what a performer that night with Belafonte.
Thanks again,
MEW

Well....since you asked. Please excuse if I seem to get a little carried away with attention to detail sometimes  ....

Late eighties, the blues revival was just beginning and it was the very first Bayfront Blues Fest held in Duluth, MN.. Luther Allsison was the final act and the headliner on chilly, gray, misty and foggy evening. There were only a handful of us die hard blues fans willing to stick it out and brave the elements.

Most of us were on picnic tables right in front of the stage which was right at the harbor water's edge. It was apparent that Luther embraced the intimacy of the situation and treated us to an obviously appreciative show.

A Great Lakes Freighter had passed silently in the thick fog right behind the stage during one of the songs. I picture in my mind that I will never forget.

Being an avid blues fan long before the blues started to be cool again, it was very moving experience for me. 8)

Ok I'm done now!

Hey Terry, I saw Luther Allison at the Cabooze here in Mpls in the 80s and yes, he put on a GREAT show!

But I've been most blown away, or most influenced, or get most sentimental, by these past shows;
Bruce Springsteen - St Paul Civic Center '77
Bob Dylan - St Paul Civic Center '78
John Hartford - Guthrie Theater '78
Talking Heads - Guthrie Theater early 80s
The Police with XTC - Minneapolis Armory
Prince - 1st Avenue '83
The Replacements - Uptown Bar '85?
Imogen Heap - Varsity Theater
Kathleen Edwards - Varsity Theater 2x!
