   This laughter and fun is good for the soul. It helps with the shock of losing Donna at such a young age.... and also the fact that I've got to go stand in line at the DMV. Sadness and misery...... sheesh.

"Tragedy" Tom,,, "You Should Be Dancing" & spending your "Nights on Broadway" but I guess that would be " Too Much Heaven",,, these are only "Words" and even though "I Started a Joke" it didn't help,,,,, but I'll bet "You Win Again" if you just stay in line. We all have "Lonely Days" and have had feelings like "I've Gotta Get a Message to You" to ask "How Can You Mend A Broken Heart",,,, it happened to me on the"First Of May" when I was feeling "Alone" but that's another story.

I think I should probably go find something to do.

My last trip to the DMV was,,,,, well it would take too long to tell but I had to make three trips to get documents to prove I'm a citizen of the good old USA.

Have fun Tom & Good Luck!!

As a guy with southern rock, country, and folk roots, I found no real meaning in the music and little appreciation of the artist who's sole responsibility was to keep 'em dancing... I still cringe thinking of lights bouncing off those twirling overhead ball things. I looked at Disco then as I consider Rap/Hip Hop today... Wait; that's unfair. Nothing is as repulsive as rap...

That said; it's just my opinion. I know not everyone appreciates Southern Rock, Country or Folk so I don't expect everyone to think like me. To each their own...

I wasn't a fan of Ms Summer's, but I read that she worked hard later in life at rectifying some early mistakes and if what I read is true, she became a pretty wholesome role model. I think CA-35's post reflects some of that redeeming moral fiber.

And just 63. Dang; she's younger than me like so many others of late. More reason to ponder...

RIP MS. Summer

Not only that, if you wanted to score, (in more ways than one), the local disco was always a pretty sure bet...

I only went to one discothèque, one time in my life. I can’t remember the name of the joint. It was in Amarillo. It had a huge, I mean huge dance floor with flashing lights that changed with the music and one of those disco balls or whatever they’re called hanging from the ceiling.

The place was packed, load as hell and I did happen to get lucky and score, (in more ways than one)..... 8)

I hate Rap/Hip Hop way more than I hated disco. I've always been offened that some no talent bum can make a fortune reciting filthy lyrics while scratching an album. When it first came around I thought it would have a life span about the same as disco but now I fear it will never die.

"No redeeming value" was my opinion only - didn't expect everyone to agree...

I worked in a record store during the disco craze, when the Saturday Night Fever album was flying off the shelves. Lots of silk shirts, gold chains, pants with no back pockets, thin women, and cocaine. Even KISS put out a disco song (I Was Made For Loving You). Luckily, I survived it.

But boy, bringing up rap "music" really puts things in perspective - disco was pleasant compared to rap!

And, even I will admit, I always liked the riff in "Le Freak" by Chic. The song is a little tedious after a while (like most disco), but a very cool riff. Here's a combination you don't see every day - Slash with Chic:

Yes. Yes, it is. Nile Rodgers. Went on to become a highly respected producer IIRC.
Continuing in the vein of giving respect where it's due, "Bad Girls" is in fact a very good piece of composition too. Donna certainly helped bring out the nuances. :D

CHIC is Nile Rogers (one of the best and most well known writers and producers of all time (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nile_Rodgers) and the late, great Bernard Edwards who is considered one of the most important bass players of the 20th century. So saying disco is "worthless" is fine as an opinion but..... look what was spawned from that pairing!! Extra points to Al for knowing that!!

As I say, you don't have to like dance music, but..... I just want to focus on the fact that we've lost a great talent and an incredible voice.

Like Tom says, the 70's Disco wave influenced some of the Greats in defining what was to become the Funk / Jazz-Rock / Fusion styles, as illustrated by one of my all time favorite funk guitar riffs by Wah Wah Watson in my favorite Hancock's album (Man Child) here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FgBrPQCSdW4

All music styles, including the ones you despise the most, are often interconnected somewhere, somehow , even if you don't hear it.
I keep saying music is like food.
As eating healthy means eating a little bit of everything (variety), developping musical taste (if not talent) is absorbing the greatest combination of styles possible.
It makes whatever flows out of your fingers, or your mind if you're not a player, richer and more original.
