After sleeping on it, I've decided that it's just a guitar, and that you really would be happier if you sold it. Call me. Please.
would you like my left arm as well? apparently i'm prone to selling such things... :D

That's up to you. Just make sure you ship it in it's own case.

Welcome to LTG AC. My gut instinct is that you would regret selling the GF-25. I let mine slip away and I miss it; one of the most comfortable guitars I've ever played...
Not only did Scratch and I both let one slip away, we let the SAME one slip away.Shame on us.

Ding dang it anyway, Tony!!!!

sounds like there's quite a back story here. what happened? one of you sold the guitar to the other, who in turn sold it to someone else...? and where did this lovely guitar end up?

i just did a search, and it looks like there are no GF25's for sale in all of Googledom. i guess that alone is a sign that i should probably hold onto it. if i did sell it and regret it, there's little chance of replacing it...

It ended up with another LTG-er who's staying out of this thread. He's probably not noticed that I drive by his house about 10 times a day.

and then i have my 1987 GF25 NT that i bought new in 1989, the first "real" guitar that i've owned. (i was a Guild man from the start...) it means a lot to me, but not as much as the F30, which i consider priceless.

i'd like to take the GF25 and trade up to a really nice, full-sized Guild. these days, i'm mostly into strumming, folk and post-modern indie folk style, and my jazz guitar roots are starting to grow again.

so, what models would people recommend i look into for a full-size strumming Guild with gorgeous, balanced sound? and should i go new, or look for used/vintage...?

oh, and do you think i'll come to regret selling my GF25...? :(
HI Rich, welcome! Hard to go wrong with an archback D25....
I'm wondering if your screen moniker came to you courtesy of your father, did he used to hang out with that Kesey kid?
And oh yes, I'd vote to keep the GF25, there's just something about the first guitar you paid your own hard-earned money for...

On the other hand, I'm sure there's satisfaction to be had from feeling a new guitar come into its own over the years - perhaps I'm just too impatient.
I feel that way about all of mine, especially when one's been resting for a while and I pull it out for a little excercise. The D40 really surprised me this weekend... Also that way you KNOW EXACTLYy what the guitar has been through and exactly how much playing time it's really had.. that was a prime reason to buy new. On the other hand, I could never buy a new Westerly archback at this point in time..

o.k., best wife ever. ;)

encouraged by everyone's feedback, i told my lovely wife i wanted to buy a new guitar. then i started to say, "i considered trading in my old one..." i didn't even get to finish the sentence as she asked rhetorically, "why would you sell your old guitar? that would be like selling your left arm." then she immediately started brainstorming ways we could display all my guitars in the living room or the stairwell... "you could get stands, or cases..."

wow. she's amazing, and that's why i love her. in any case, thanks to everyone for convincing me not to sell my left arm. but if i ever need to, i know who to ask first. :)

in other news... i've just ordered my new Guild! and i did decide to go new, since i have three vintage guitars, four with the Gibson. i'm not going to spill the beans just yet, but i'll be sure to post info and photos when i bring it home, hopefully this week.

by the way, my name's Rich. i'm not trying to be secretive or anything. i just like the screen name "ac1dt3st". ;)

I would say Keep both, guitar and wife and buy a vintage JF-55 or F-50R to go with them (also wife and guitar) The reason I recomend the two Guild models I did comes from my experience with Rosewood bodied Martins, my Martins are both Brazilian Rosewood Dreads and in MHO Brazilian is superior in tone to East Indian and I would love to find a Brazilian F-50R to go with my Martins, that said go vintage and try for a Brazilian Model F-50R if you can find one, if you can't find a Brazilian then either model in East Indian would due nicely. FWIW

thanks, great to be part of a community of Guild enthusiasts! and no, the name was actually kind of random. a few years back i wanted to come up with a unique screen name for forums that looked good in "h4ck3r typ3". not sure how or why, but the term "acid test" came to mind. so, no rhyme or reason; just something easy to remember. ;)

thanks! yeah, i think i'm pretty much on the same page. currently planning to keep the GF25 *and* the wife, :D and i'm on the trail of a larger-sized rosewood Guild; they're so balanced, both warm and bright.

and i guess the guitar displays might make for a good winter project...

Now that's a fine looking instrument, MY MAN!!!! What ever you do don't let it go or you will live to regret it and I speak from experience. Take a look at my Avitar and see what I let go and am now regretting it. That is my F212NT and I let it go in the late 80's and I now miss it terribly. That is the reason I am hanging on to my Martins.
