Wow, what a guitar!

Crazy good tone unplugged, loud, clean. Later through a Fender Tremolux Reverb, yummy, lots of good tones.

Belongs to a collector I've been emailing with for a while, we finally met. Has an impressive collection. That was the only Guild, but if you only needed one Guild, its impressive.

Insane condition, and it is for sale, didn't ask the price, but online prices are nuts.

A 1958 he figured, but was looking to an expert to date it properly.

I'll try to get a serial # and post it.

In equally clean brown hard case with Guild NY logo.

I just emailed him and suggested he post it on CL so I can link it to the site.

If someone here is looking for such a beast, I'll relay his info.

Retired guy about my age, collected in the hope of starting his own store. Every guitar he had was neat and not the usual and I played them all.

He says "When you leave, all my guitars will be in tune" ;[]

I can tune any guitar in seconds without any need for a tuner. I don't even like tuners. Maybe a tuning fork to get the A string right, the rest I do by ear.

Wondering if tuners shrink your hippocampus?

It's a brown back, no sunburst.

Clean enough to be a reissue.

Gone over/restrung by a good tech who's name I use to hear about a lot, Nick Schilling in the CDA ID area. The bridge is designed for a wound 3rd string, but it has a plain 3rd string and sounds just fine that way.

There is a smidge of binding shrinkage in the cutaway, just to let you know it is old.

Unplugged tone and playability were way better than the average guitar, no fret wear, so clean.

Maple top, I don't remember being any Sunburst.

I'm sure he can provide a couple pics, maybe today.

I always leave my phone in the car when I visit people, much to wife/family chagrin, lack of connectivity issues...

He had 40 vintage guitars and the Guild stands out above all others, go figure.

The Guild needed no tuning, played old timey blues very well.

Serial # is 9902, with matching hangtag in case pocket. Clear knobs are so cool, pots feel like a brand new guitar. This guitar is still nearly like new. You can see the shrunken binding in the cutaway, leave it alone was the advice from his tech "very solid".

I've seen more dinged up guitars in showrooms. No fret wear. Easy playing. Pickups were awesome through the Tremolux Reverb. Lead pickup is hot and bright, really hits the reverb hard, neck pickup is sweet and mellow.

Hard to imagine that being so clean after all this time. Kind of a shame, but quite amazing at the same time.

The guitar is pristine, but I decided the price was a bit steep for me to alert you all by posting link.

I've only noticed Ed's Vintage recently, but he may have been on Reverb longer than me. He's listed a few good ones lately (albeit not in the same league as the T-100) but priced them ambitiously in my opinion.

I never did ask him what he wanted but researching T100D's ahead of meeting him I saw that prices - some - were in excess of $4k.

Same as house prices are "location, location, location" vintage guitar prices are "condition, condition, condition", meaning that the only thing that makes his guitar unique is the condition. The inside label is pure white, no fret wear, all in all I'd say the guitar has rarely come out of the case that's basically mint as well.

The nearest competitor is a '59 at M&M Guitar Bar in Seattle, more of a beater for $4200, so his [crazy] asking price seem in line to me, it's the oldest one available, in virtually mint condition.

I turned down offers - twice - of $1600 for my S-50, not because it's not good money for that guitar, but just because it's a lot more guitar than any other S-50 on the Verb at similar prices, so it makes no sense, and sets a bad precedent for other sellers.

My asking price has to be higher than this one.

The way inflation is going, crazy prices look a less crazy in a short time anymore, faster than in previous times.

Wow! That one is a deadringer for my first T-100D. I regretfully sold mine to a fellow LTGer for way less than the absurd prices of today, this one included.

Mine had an earlier serial number, but I always thought it was a '59. I should clear that up with Hans. Not quite as clean and without the case candy, but the same appointments common for that time. Honestly too pristine for my tastes--I like mine roughed up a bit. :C)

I agree with Guildedagain, that price is perhaps high but not unreasonable. Inflation!

He's got a Make Offer, too. Even the label isn't faded! That is like it just left the showroom. ..

That's a birth year for me, and I wish I was in that kind of shape! ** edit - Hans' post below makes this guitar NOT a birth year for me!

Hello jp,

Your T-100DP was indeed a '59 and so is the guitar that is the subject of this thread.

Sincerely,

Thx Hans, owner wanted a definitive date. He's 1958 vintage and was hoping for '58 I think "based on the knobs".

I also like my guitars a bit more roughed up, because it's hard to play one much without doing a little bit of damage, like the things we do to our cars, bodies...
