Maybe I've posted the right pic here, should be Pete with a new pickguard....Yaaay it worked. Pete is from 67 or 68, built 50 guitars before the one Judy Collins was using around that time. Pete's had a hard life, but when he speaks....wow the voice is convincing in all venues....just beautiful rich mellow full balanced and totally pleasing...but without the pickguard always looked undressed.... Steffan

i love me some F312 action, almost as much as the act of rescuing a Guild and getting 'er up to playing speed!

looks like you have both acts well in hand, so good on ya!

Pete isn't the only one who's had a hard life, eh Steffan? Maybe you two found each other for a reason. You can HEAL each other...... Looking good!!

New user here. My 14 year old son has been playing guitar for 3 years. Been getting pretty good and for the last few months has been playing his acoustic more. Then he decided he wanted a 12 string and fell in love with the Guild's at the local music store. While looking for something affordable his grandfather called out of the blue and told me a guy near him had a guitar for sell. It was a Guild f312, 1967, in pretty rough shape. But it was only $200. Has a crack in the soundboad that was poorly repaired. Varnish has been removed and new stain put on. If playable, sounds like I may have gotten a great deal. My question is this. If playable, should I be thinking about taking it to a reputable repair shop and trying to get it back to near original shape. Or, if that could destroy the sound, am I better off with a great sounding f312 that is ugly than a beautiful one that has lost its sound? Will a restoration possibly damage it?

Welcome to LTG, GA!

Without pics, likely, you won't get a lot of help, nonetheless the more knowledgeable folks will chime in with some advices.

In the meanwhile you could try to get in touch with Fixit (Tom), an LTG member who is a very skilled and a highly respected luthier, and see what he says. Lot of folks can attest for his work.

All the best,
B.

Depends if you could live with a great sounding Brazilian guitar, don't be taking it across a lot of borders. I'd take it in a heartbeat. How does $300 sound? :D Steffan

Welcome aboard, GA!!

Make sure the guitar is structurally sound and stable but personally I would not worry too much about the cosmetics.

A brw F-312 is a holy grail for a lot of us. Sounds like a good deal.

Thanks everyone! Sound over looks for sure. It looked better than I expected. One really ugly crack that was not professionally repaired. tuners need some work. One of the strings broke while tuning (probably a decade or more old). Otherwise it sounds great! Let me see if I can figure out how to post a picture. Will take it to our trusted reair shop tomorrow and see if we can get it restrung. Let me go to FAQ and see how to post a picture.

My first time posting a picture so let's see if it works. This image shows the ugly white line where a crack was once repaired.
