Hi Charlie ... if I may ... Your confusion may stem from the confusion.
Michael's VW Polo / Audi 50
VW Golf/Rabbit
VW Dasher/Passat

Yup, me too. Redline around 9 grand, flames from the exhaust, and sucks gas like a private jet! My first rotary was an rx-7 in '88 and 20 years later they're still a blast.GAWD I love those rotor motors!
Of course not ... besides ... the Russians probably didn't know how many cylinders were supposed to work anyway ... My brother and sister-in-law have an Audi (A-6?) ... it's about 10 years old and starting to give them trouble.krysh said:not to offend VW, capn.
You are correct about the Golf/Rabbit, but Michael's car is a Polo, which didn't actually make it the US, probably due to the domination of the Ford Escort in that class at that time. It wouldn't have been competitive here.Chazmo said:Michael, Sandy, wasn't that '80s-era Golf released as the Dasher in the US? Not sure about that... Maybe a Rabbit?
What I found interesting was that no matter how I drove the first one, it got 22mpg. I realized later it must have had the nice tall rearend and o/d gear, because the 85 GSL-SE I finished with could never beat 18..and it needed 4100rpm to cruise at 80 (on the 1.3 liter motor), while the first one did it at 3800 on the 1.1 ltr motor), overall a much more relaxing "tourer".RussD said:Yup, me too.
