Not much going on here for a while so here's my attempt to kick start it. Working on "The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance" and also Gordon Lightfoot's "If You Could Read My Mind". Man I just can't keep up that picking pattern and sing too. Of course my wife would say I can't sing anyway. Just like Chet Atkins, not none a'tall.

"I Wonder Where My Baby Is Tonight"

A great song by Robert Earl Keen. Easy to fingerpick in G and easy enough to sing, just in case you're wondering....where your baby is tonight, or any night for that matter.

Give it a shot,
Joe

*Again, the concept of "perfecting" is up to the perfectee!

Right now, finishing up two:

Robert Johnson's Steady Rollin' Man (took me quite a while to get the hang of the bass line incorporation with the melody) When you listen to it, it sounds like two guitars. A nice challenge.

Big Bill Broonzy's Key to the Highway

Both are pretty different in terms of feel. Both soulful, but Steady Rollin' Man is more mellow. Key to the Highway is way too much fun to play.

Chim Chim Cheree... this has gotta be the all time definitive busker's tune...remember Dick van Dyke delivering it? Then just switch it up to swing time at the chorus and it's magic! Think Coltrane and "My Favorite Things". 8) Got the chord progression down now I'm just trying to get the complete lyrics memorized.

I've been "perfecting" this song for a few years, and I'd like to recommend it for the perfect "wake-up call" on any morning:

Blue Moon Nights by John Fogerty. It is quite simply a wonderful tune to play and sing....do it in E and feel it!
It's one of my all-time, personal favorites. :!:

Happy rainy, blustery Monday (at least it is here),
Joe

A couple more; "Forever Autumn" by Justin Hayward/Moody Blues and "All That Glitters" by Dan Seals Both are a real challenge for the vocally non gifted types like me.

That's a good one, but I have to say that I get a little damp spot in my heart when I think of Steve Goodman. He was the epitome of the 'good dying young.' :(

But, I digress,
Joe

Fighting to get something original out of my head and into the Tascam.

It's like being nauseated, but not being able to upchuck it out of my head. :(

I just started working on Little Martha myself. Best of luck to you on the job hunt. This economy could turn itself around anytime -- like yesterday.

I have a DVD set of musical performances and musical skits from the first 25 yrs of Saturday Night Live. I always loved the '76(?) performance by Elvis Costello when he stopped the show and continued by playing "Radio Radio", almost in some form of protest. I finally looked up the tab not to long ago and started playing it; it's an easy rock-rythm play-your-guitar-like-a-drum song that's fun to belt out, especially when there's other stuff going on in your life that makes you feel like your being censored.

Boy, there's a song right there! Lots of potential for a beautiful romantic ballad!

Joe, you don't know the half of it.

So, I guess we'll just have to wait for the lyrics.

It's Wednesday and that's 12-string day at my place.
Having a nice, mellow evening with 'Wild Horses' and 'As Tears Go By,' wrapped around 'Wish You Were Here' and my favorite reditions of 'Mr. Tambourine Man,' 'Learnin' to Fly,' and 'Rings.'
For starters! :D

Happy twelver,
Joe
