MojoTooth said:thank you sir, i always thought that was a funny video. i am not much a Mayer fan myself, he is a talented player but his style of music is not really my cup of tea.
MojoTooth said:I admire him (Joe Bonamassa) for having not gone "pop" yet but it truly baffles me how he isn't a household name yet like a John Mayer type. But I know it has to do with the "pop" element.
MojoTooth said:As for John Mayer, all it would take is for him to share the stage with Joe Bonamassa for a few songs and he would never ever be heard from again.
MojoTooth said:I feel he just gets too much credit for being a great bluesman, when he is a pop star. I see him as a pop star and not a bluesman, but his die hard fans sweat that he is Jimi and SRV's love child. He is talented yes, but very unoriginal and when he does try to be original it is nothing more that fratboy pop rock. This is all just my opinion though so no offense meant for anyone who likes him. That is why I prefer a guy like Joe Bonamassa to Mayer. Bonamassa is the anti-pop star, but by not selling out he hasn't gotten the respect he deserves yet. If he were to sell out and put out an album of originals that all were aimed at making frat boys and teenies dance then he would no doubt be a household name.
MojoTooth said:save for the fact him doing as well as he is has nothing to do with his chops, which are what the Mayer fanboys celebrate most. He is popular because he write bubblegum pop songs for fratboys and teenage college girls. He is getting lots of mileage from SRV and Jimi licks over and over again while writing songs with very little content. His personal life doesn't matter to me, I base my assessment on his playing and the music, which is unbearable. I have tried several times to listen to various discs of his, but cant make it through a whole song without skipping the the next one. This is common knowledge, but, there are plenty of more talent players out there we have never of since they are too busy gigging and playing good music to worry about twittering, writing pop songs and making the tabloids. Bonamassa and Derek Trucks come to mind immediately.
I'm beginning to think you don't like John Mayer. Are we ever going to get to a point where somebody can mention John Mayer without you going off on him?
