the round core, and the (nickel) material. Smoother tone, nicer tension (a set of 11's feels like 10's), longer life, better string to string balance, nicer feel, and they sound like a 1950's record in the best possible ways. Chromes feel and sound cheap in comparison. IMO and YMMV.

I may have to give them a shot Walter, Thanks for the tip and description. I am also curious as I thought I read somewhere that you had wax potted all of your Franz pickups to eliminate or reduce the feedback on stage. I have never potted a set of pickups myself and was curious what all this entails as I may be interested in doing mine or having them done. Thanks again!

I was just looking at the Thomastik strings, Are the Jazz/Swing sets the ones you are referring to Walter?

It's definitely worth giving the Thomastik-Infeld flats a try. I use their Bebop rounds on my AA and their Plectrum strings on my F-50, and both are very, very good. On my X-500 I actually have tried the T-I flats and still prefer Chromes, but everybody has different preferences, and each guitar is different. T-I strings are always worth trying.

I use different strings on different guitars too, and the T-Is are a great option. I like the Jazz/Swings in particular. All my old Fenders have 'em except the Tele (which prefers Pyramid Golds). My Aristocrat loves 'em too. The tone & feel are as Walter describes. Classic '50s/early '60s.

I think you might be right, Walter. It usually is visible on lighter burst finishes and gives them an interesting color quality. This '59 Capri posted by Billy D also has that finish.

Yep. Yoiu got it
