I agree, don't overlook Maple. You might prefer it to Rosewood.

I do.

+1 on the maple Guilds. They are very good guitars and still can be found for reasonable prices.

Here's a picture of the D50 mentioned earlier.

The owner says the bridge has lifted slightly.

Anyone have an opinion on a max bid? I don't want to be stupid about this guitar thing. I always seem to jump in with both feet before I know what's really going on. Wish I'd known about Guild before I bought the Fender.

Thanks,

John

John,

Ya know, nice D50s come up pretty frequently. If there's any doubt at all (and I would avoid a lifting bridge) then hold tight for the next one.

Thanks Dave,

That's exactly the advice I need.

I'll keep looking.

Well, I don't know them all. But I'd bet there are folks here who do!

The D-30s are nice guitars, but there are many other great maple Guilds.

Assuming you want a dread style guitar, I'd second these suggestions:

D30 / G37: Great choices if you want maple & they won't break the bank.
DV52: Best bang for buck rosewood dread on the planet... bar none.

If you're really a mahogany guy, I'd suggest an all mahogany bodied dread
like either a D15, D16 or D17 from the mid 80's/early 90's.
