Thanks Chaz, and having worked for an Asian company (Yamaha Music) for a couple of years, I am not surprised the least by the wonders of the East (nice rime hmmm? ).
I will jump on the first chance I get to compare that F-212 to my Westerly, and share my impression, should I get so lucky....

The Red Violin

Perfect movie for a wine/dinner evening (at home) with my wife. We were enthralled, to say the least. Great story, great acting, and Samuel L. Jackson showing the range of his skills.

A must see! And of course, make the wine red.

Joe
I endorse the film, also. One of my favorites.
Thanks for listing it!

Dear New Hartford Guild,

For Christmas this year I would like an F612 in Antique Burst finish with gold hardware.

Thanks,

Blues Dan

Hey, newt... I think I just did. They do make good salad bowls though, don't they? ;) Seriously, as my post said, my hat is off to Kaman for rescuing Guild! I wonder what economic forces required the closing of Tacoma, but whatever the reasons it's clear to me that Kaman has embraced Guild. I can't wait for our forthcoming (hopefully) factory tour.

I remember a time when a tag/label that said "Made in Japan" was the source of considerable humor.
Fast forward 50 years....can you hear me now?

Right on, Joe!

It is surely an interesting cycle of how manufacturing migrates around the world, uplifting different countries to new levels of economic participation in the world's economy and then going elsewhere as those countries' standards of living improve.

Japan's rise was fueled by American waste and inefficiency back in the '60s and '70s which opened the door for Japan to come eat our lunch. I have enormous respect for the Japanese... they were clever and ruthless and ate our lunch (and our dinner too). We then dove into a period of a national inferiority complex, and handed our wallets, jobs, and products over to Japan not to mention our property. But, it didn't last forever.

Sounds like good news on several fronts. I really want to get my paws on a few of the New Haven guitars. May take a road trip around New Year. Thanks for the report Chaz.

Let's Talk Guild Movies Wine Choices Status Quo And Everything Else Under The Sun

A bit long so we just might revert to LTG and consider it all-inclusive!

Any word if the New Hartford factory is going to do a D40 "Ritchie"? The Tacoma D40, D40 Ritchie, New Hartford D40 are all in my GAS sights but would certainly like to consider a New Hartford Ritchie.

I'd be interested in knowing this too. My ear clearly prefers sitka to adi when it comes to tops.

FWIW, I have no info on the Ritchie Havens model going forward. Certainly a good question for the Kaman tour if it hasn't already been answered by then (if it ever happens, that is).

Yes, there are folks who prefer the D40 (Ritchie with the sitka top) to the standard D-40 ( red spruce top).

If I have learned anything about guitars in the last 45 years, it is that everyone hears them differently, and though a recommendation is much appreciated, you still have to decide for yourself whether you be an expert player or a novice.

You Ritchie model fans... Give the standard (Adi) D-40 from CT a test drive. I'd be very interested to know your thoughts. I thought it was stellar!

They have a bunch of special editions coming. One I saw there over turkey holiday was a smaller body from cocobolo and a carpathian top, 25 made; and a Koa jumbo and a couple of others that I can't recall. I played one of the cocos and it was great, real punchy. Also saw a nice proto of the smaller body with a florentine cutaway, maple body. Now that's a guitar I'd like to have.
