Hi All,

Well it looks like the hunt for a 12 string is over, and we have a winner! Here's the D25-12 that I found on eBay that I bid on on a lark not really expecting to win it for that price. I was also a little leery of the seller's zero feedback, but I had some back and forth with him prior to the end of the auction, and he seemed like a nice fellow. Hey, I guess we all had zero feedback once, didn't we?

Anyhow, the guitar arrived today, and it's in way better condition than I expected it to be. :D

If there's a crack on the face, damned if I can tell where it is!

The top bout is immaculate

As is the bottom bout

The serial dates it to early 1996

Very clean around the sound hole too

There's still tons of saddle left, and the action at the 12th fret is nice and low. It plays beautifully and sounds magnificent. It doesn't even need a setup or new strings.

The pictures with the auction didn't really tell me much, but the seller assured me that I could send it back if I wasn't happy.

Well, that won't be happening!

Hi Corgi, CONGRATS! I happen to think '96 was a very good year for D25 bodies... just out of curiosity, does it have a date stamp on the heelblock? I didn't notice the one on mine for several months 'cause it was on one of the bevels and not immediately noticable.

I just took a look inside, and it says "Dec 5 1995". It's my first '90s Guild!

You know Treem, I've never been particularly fond of bursts on acoustics, but it really works on this one. I'll make an exception.

twocorgis,

I think everyone who's inclined to be part of this group appreciates any of us coming across a good deal on a fine instrument, so best wishes on your new comrade! Ebay can be many things, but it is rewarding to work with a good person on the other end of a transaction. Have fun!

I really feel like I got over on a guy who was selling the guitar to pay for shoulder surgery that he was underinsured for. Nobody should have to sell a guitar for a reason like that IMHO. I paid by AMEX PayPal because I was nervous about his zero feedback, and I'm sure he took a further hit on that. He packaged it outstandingly well, and I reused said packaging to send the D-50 to Nashville for a neck reset. I'm seriously considering sending this guy some more money, crazy as that sounds. I think this guitar should have brought at least $200 more than I paid for it.

What sayeth the group?

As I posted recently in another thread, things like this require that you follow your heart.
It's a mighty generous offer on your part and one that speaks well for your character.
Good karma!

Well Joe, I followed my heart when I bought it, and it usually doesn't steer me wrong. I'm a firm believer in paying it forward, and towards that end I think I am going to do it. I was ready to spend a lot more on a good 12 string, and came in considerably under budget on this one.

I've bought a lot of stuff on eBay, but there's a first time for everything, isn't there?

I Think that That would be a mighty suprise to him, and leave him feeling really good about the whole matter ( beyond "the dollar') and if in your heart, you feel that, and your wallet allows you to, ....YOU TOO will be feeling great about that too.........and the guitar will be a constant reminder of a deed well done. These selfless, good acts, take on a life of their own, and move onward. creating POSITIVE ENERGY!!
I agree, such speaks Very well of youself......a how well you and that guitar are going to get along.
all the best with your decision.

Beeeautiful git you have there, and I love the burst :p I agree that being kind to another above the norm is a blessing to everyone involved. It would be a special blessing to him since he could use it at this time. Shoulder surgery is no picnic I had one over a year ago and I am still having trouble with it. It was the most painful recovery I had ever experienced. So go ahead and bless him, he blessed you.
