[quote="Christopher Cozad":3vx7os3g]There was a young lady playing with Kenny Chesney, on a Gibson Hummingbird. The guitar sounded fantastic! Plugged In via a Pickup! Wow! (And I am *no* Gibson fan)

By the way, my new favorite group is the singer/songwriter/family The Band Perry. These kids (my children's ages) are delightfully talented and a joy to listen to.

Showing my years,

Christopher

That was the Gibson I was mentioning with Kenny Chesney......gosh that thing sounded incredible. They (The Band Perry) are good, aren't they?

I played a 1965 short scale Gibby Hummingbird yesterday at Hill Country Guitars. It has seen many a gig; anything but pristine; just a player, really, but it sounded incredible. If I had $3600 in my pocket, I'da bought the dang thing...

Well just an opinion, but I personally don't think most of the folks on the CMA's play what I would consider country music. The band Perry came pretty close, what a great sound. As did Kenny Chesney. To me, the appeal of Taylor Swift is that she is so young, yet written so many hit songs, and man she gives that Taylor a workout......she just seems like a good girl and I know that she goes above and beyond with her fans. There's just no way I can put "Shake it for Me" in the country genre  . There was one point during that song in which I looked up and got a face full of booty! Just disgusting  ........no really, just not country music to me.

As for Guild, there are several Youtube clips in which Blake Shelton's lead guitarist just rips a Westerly D30....play a bunch of slide on it, but I didn't see him last night.

Sadly, a lot of current country music now just seems like rock w a southern accent. That's the music I loved and grew up with in New Mexico, and there's still some good stuff out there, but where's Ray Price when you need him?

Hear, hear!
So many "country" artists now are mere caricatures and don't really appeal to me with all the glitz and glitter and choreography/pyrotechnic-laden presentations. Lordy but they sure do get noisy!

Give me an old back porch and a couple of friends with acoustic guitars, and.........

I agree... today's glitter has too many flashing lights and not enough sequins.

I did like the Band Perry, and I didn't really look to see if what they played was that difficult to play. Thats because the entire arrangement sounded so good.

As a music enthusiast I hate to admit that I really dislike that typical "country tone" that comes out of a Telecaster or a Les Paul. Meanwhile these same guitars can produce a sound thats just great when used with a different tone, and in different music.

Taylor Swift IS talented....there's no doubt about it! I think 6L6 was referring to the unbridled enthusiam.

Well, actually I think her talent is modest at best. I've heard a number of singers on American Idol I thought were much better than her, and that's just for starters.

Stiil, there's no denying most of the world thinks she's great, so good for her.

Though I'm not muck for Taylor Swift myself, I do like that she writes her own songs.
She has a fair and pleasing voice and looks great.
She doesn't have the best voice out there but take a long look back at Country singers. Many of them, men and women alike were not that good vocally.
It takes more than a good voice to make it big.

I watched about 1/2 of the show. The Country Music scene has left me behind as has the Rock scene.
I'll just stick with my oldies radio channels and play my songs on my guitars.

By the way, I love MP3. It goes with me everywhere.

We play Sirrius radio in the shop where I work. It's set to change the station every hour, we change the stations every couple weeks. Right now I'm subjected to current country for an hour a day. I can often ignore the crappy music, or the crappy lyrics, but not both. :( Hank spins in his grave. Some days I actually look forward to "70's Gold or Hair Nation.

Set 'em up Joe, and play Walkin' The Floor.

Nice clip, Tom. Vern's Chiseled In Stone album is one of my all time faves. Never knew he played a Guild. 8)
