Spotting guitars and seeing what the big boys and girls play. About 60 minutes in, and so far.

Brad Paisley.........Martin.....D28 maybe.
Keith Urban...........Fender......Telecaster I think.
Zack Brown..........Gibson......electric?
Eric Somebody?.....Gibson Songwriter maybe.
Chris Somebody.....Taylor
Taylor Swift..........Taylor (Beautiful Koa)
Kenny Chesney......Takamine, Gibson
The Band Perry.......Gibson Maple jumbo....hard to see.
Paisley..................Fender Strat maybe.
Paisley/Urban.........Fender/Gibson
Glen Campbell.........Ovation

Well, that's it.....nary a Guild to be found......again.

There was a young lady playing with Kenny Chesney, on a Gibson Hummingbird. The guitar sounded fantastic! Plugged In via a Pickup! Wow! (And I am *no* Gibson fan)

By the way, my new favorite group is the singer/songwriter/family The Band Perry. These kids (my children's ages) are delightfully talented and a joy to listen to.

Showing my years,

Christopher

That was the Gibson I was mentioning with Kenny Chesney......gosh that thing sounded incredible. They (The Band Perry) are good, aren't they?

I took a little trip to see Carl and Elizabeth last year. Cid was out west so I packed the dog up and we went for a weekend.

The Band Perry had just released "If I Die Young". They were playing a free concert, bring a non perishable canned good, in the Buffalo area. They have done quite well.

You know, watching Taylor Swift perform merely with guitar and vocal made me so nostalgic. It was nice to see a standing ovation for her solo performance (though the next performer, a handsome young man surrounded by gyrating, letter-clad young women also received a standing ovation), but it made me remember watching a young Joni Mitchell...

Incredible indeed, wholeheartedly agreed! Thank you, sir, I hadn't seen that before.

That one was done in CMT's private studio.....very intimate setting, with no audience. It's called Studio 330 Sessions and they have different artists come in and do that......check CMT's website. Some really great and candid performances.

Was it me or did Lionel Richie seem out of place?

Bang on there CA.

Poor face lift aside. And having Darius come out to sing with him was, what, well I'll leave that alone at the moment.

I thought most of the show was very kewl, very relaxed, funny, poking fun at themselves.

To be honest West, I would have thought there would have been more Taylors. I don't watch too much mainstream country, but when I do, they always seem to be playing Taylors.

Sorry folks, but I just don't get the enthusiasm for Taylor Swift.

That said, about 50 million people disagree with me, so what do I know? LOL!

As for the lack of Guild guitars, the good news is that it keeps prices very affordable for used instruments.

No, of course she's not Joni Mitchell. No one is. And I'm not sure how that comparison even cropped up (long blond hair?), but it's a bit unfair. What Taylor Swift will become as the years go by remains to be seen, but I think she's extremely talented and I do like her sound. Thanks for posting that vid, West. A very sweet and moving performance. Thanks for that.

Oh I know WHERE the reference came from, Joe. Just questioning it's premise. There's nothing Joni-like about her. Unless, of course, you consider "women with a guitar" to be a valid category. That's just a bit too broad for me......
You and I are on the same side of the fence on that one......

Give the girl some space.
Exactly!

This was quite a sound. I noticed it as the high point of the awards for acoustic sound.

On the topic of guitars played, for some time country music has been very commercialized with heavier electric guitars and drumming than earlier country music. For an example do you remember Harper Valley PTA, and A Boy Named Sue?

This year at CMA, it didn't surprise me to see so many trademark Gibson acoustics, Telecasters, and Fender basses being played. Also many of the drummers are smacking the drums as much as in most rock acts.

The Band Perry did give some hope of a truly good sound in country (probably because they are really a folk rock band).

For the bottom line I can't recall seeing any Guild guitars being played. That doen't discourage me at all. I can only endure about 20 minutes worth of country radio due to most of what's played is that trademark, redundant sound. On the other hand I can listen to "the good stuff" almost all the time.
