Watch John Denver give a clinic on how a Guild F512 is played.

Hello Aerie,

Welcome! Thanks for the link.

One little correction: That's a Guild F-612 that he's playing in that particular video.

Sincerely,

Hans Moust

Ah! Thanks Hans. I stand corrected. How can you tell the diff?

Hey Steffan! Thanks for the info.
Ah, that's his Mystery Guild! Looks like a custom job. Body: perhaps F50R with double pickguards. Neck: From a Guild Artist Award Series Hollow Body Jazz guitar.
That one is also on the cover of his 1975 concert album "An Evening With..."which was in every record collection in the World. BTW Ain't Taffy a babe?!? 8)

Welcome, Aerie (with eagle overtones) from another JD fan. In the early 70s I was all over his music, and I guess I still am as far as that goes! Good stuff.

He left us way too soon! :( But he was soaring when he did!

Cheers,
Joe

Hello, Aerie.
Happy to see that you have found the Guild Closet Players Association.
They don't let us out very often, but when they do, we have a great time.

Were you a member of the now defunct JohnDenver.Net group?
Seems like I remember someone from there that went by Aerie.

So how do you like your Tacoma Guilds?
As you will soon find out, Guilds are broken into groups here, by where they were made.
I play a Tacoma built D-55 currently and love it.

Pictures are very welcome. Guitar pictures I mean!

By the way, you will find a lot of John Denver fans here.
I'm one myself.
It was John that got me playing acoustic guitar back in the day and it's his music that I play the most, today.

Stick around and meet the rest of the crew here.
We have a great group of folks here, that are very passionate about their Guilds.

Thank you TMG. Can I call you TMG?
Regarding my Tacoma made Guilds: Both are absolutely fantastic!. Being 'real' guitars - as opposed to laminate - they are still quite young and a tad shy. These two individuals, the F-512 and the F-50R, are only around a year-and-a-half old apiece - so they haven't fully 'opened up' yet.

I have to say a word or two about the craftsmanship. The F-50R is shipped with medium strings and is designed with mediums in mind. The F-512 with lights. Both were delivered without any setting-up ( in the raw, as it were ). I actually prefer it that way because every guitar is so different.

After having my local guitar pro set them up properly, I was simply stunned. The neck on the F50R needs almost zero relief. The neck is virtually a straight edge. The bone saddle was shaved down a tad and the notches in the nut, also bone, were filed a bit. The result is an amazingly low action without any rattle or buzz or loss of volume. The intonation over the length of the neck is dead on on all strings on both guitars.

And the tone... These sound like friggin Guilds. They have that unmistakable unique mix of tone/balance/punch/chime that have always been associated with these jumbos.

I also must admit to feeling a bit lucky to have purchased them when I did. I would hope the new offerings of these classics maintain the level of quality of the Tacoma Guilds. I have to say I really do not like the new look of the post-Tacomas. I also have an old Westerly RI dreadnought. Even it doesn't compare to the Tacomas.

...And oh yes, John was the real deal.

In the first YouTube link I posted here earlier I just noticed there is more LTG content, Jon Carroll is playing a Guild dread, but can't see it clearly, two Guilds for the price of one, a real; Afternoon Delight

I had the fortune to see JD when "Take Me Home, Country Roads" was just hitting, & being just across the Chesapeake Bay from Washington, D.C., where Bill & Taffy were based, they were included in the show, & of course they sang along. They worked as "Fat City" at the time.
It was a good show, at the time that JD was transitioning from the writer of "Leaving On A Jet Plane" to a rising star as a performer. Good Guild exposure, as well.
