Well... there aren't, as far as I know, any pics of him playin' it.
That I've ever seen.
If it's any consolation.
:wink-new:

I kid Carlos of course (as you know)... but the one thing I will tell you about learning to play violin first, is it makes playing guitar feel ridiculously easy! :kiwi-fruit:

Wish it woulda worked that way for me...yep, my first instrument was a violin too (well, viola, actually)...courtesy of the local elementary school. Complete with the stereotypical martinet of a music teacher who berated me for being late to class one day after completing a mandatory test in another class which I normally would have been released from early, for the music class. My mother, hearing of this, immediately yanked me out of the music class.
I still suffer the occcasional anxiety attack from that childhood trauma.
Adding insult to injury, I never really wanted to play violin in the first place, I wanted to learn trumpet so I could play "Casino Royale" and all the cool Tijuana Brass/Herb Alpert stuff, but he gave my buddy the trumpet because he had better lips. Even though I had better lungs. Then he even downsized me to viola because I had small hands.
Anyway when I got to guitar in junior high it was pretty much back to square one....but that guy was a revelation: The entire first lesson was dedicated to the ergonomics of the instrument.
Well, on second thought, maybe the guitar was whole lot easier after violin, all things considered...

Great photo, Pascal.

It's interesting to know what instruments LTGers started with in their musical journeys.

Me? Saxophone in the school band. Started with alto, ended up with the Baritone. Then discovered that the girls were more responsive to guitar playing. That ended the sax thing pretty quickly for me!

That music teacher really ruined it for ya, hummm?
Wasn't your fault Al. Wasn't your fault. You were just a kid, trying to do the right thing.... :tranquillity:
And then one day when I came home from school there was a different family in my house too.
My folks had moved and forgotten to take me with 'em.
They remembered my dog but not me.
sniff

Miss this thread previously - EPIC! Wonderful bit of personal history. Really great that the radio interview was dug up, the songs/sounds were pretty cool!

The French do have an avid appreciation of rock music. Probably the best rock nightclub I've ever been to was in Paris in 1989 - The Gibus Club I think it was called, somewhere near Republique if I remember correctly. It was a regular haunt for a while & it had bands on until about midnight & then a rock disco type of thing to 4 or 5 in the morning. Taking the night bus home. Ahh, the memories...

Thanks for digging up this thread Z!
Now you know all there is to know about the "purple pants saga".

I knew you had a good knowledge of French culture, thanks to your earlier allusions to my favorite kid snack, the "pain au chocolat" and Emmauelle Béart on another thread, and now you're telling me you were in attendance at the "Gibus"... wow! Pretty cool.
How long did you stay in Paris and when? Curious minds......

I'm going there for a couple weeks, leaving Saturday.
Maybe I'll dig up more teenage memorabilia to throw on this thread. (Over 4500 views..... and another "wow"!)

Wow! Not sure how I missed this thread the first time around. It's nice to see and hear that your skills on the guitar were once put out there for people to enjoy live. I didn't understand a word of the lyrics, but the guitar playing was great! Kind of brings me back to my Deep Purple days and tunes like Stormbringer. If you decide to tour again I would pay to see it...even in French! :abnormal: Great playing! As for the purple tights, I would have rather seen them on Lita Ford or Nancy Wilson, but you have Lady Texan on your side. :sentimental:

My uncle lives in Paris & every summer he goes back to Croatia for 6 or so weeks. I was travelling through Europe at the time & asked him what happens to his apartment. He said "well it stays empty" & I of course generously offered to mind it for him while he was away - no charge! I was there for the 200 Bicentenary celebrations - crazy night. All up I was there for almost 6 weeks. After doing the backpacking thing for 3 months, with 1 day here, two days there etc, it was great to be in one place & what better place than Paris? Magnificent city & it was really good to do relatively normal things - going to the swimming pool on the Seine, the cinema, home cooking etc, apart from all the sights & experiences the city has to offer.

You know of the "Gibus" club Pascal? It was really a fluke how we found it - a little, maybe 12 x 8cm sticker at a bus stop. As soon as I walked down the stairs I knew it was going to be good for me based on the posters on the wall, including that of Australian band The Saints.

Awesomeness! I know the Gibus by name yes, but never been. I only lived in Paris for a very short period of time back in the mid eighties when I was a route salesman for Yamaha musique France. As you mentioned that city has a lot of experiences to offer.....
