Thanks Coastie! Choice song link.

GAD, we AxeFX users seem to be popping up all over the place. I'd buy shares in Fractal Audio Systems if I could!
I enjoy the huge flexibility of mine, although I had a couple of false starts getting the amp/cab combo right after trying and not liking FRFR.
I find myself getting carried away with the choices of amps and effects. There is almost too much you can do with this thing...
How do like yours?

10's are on the heavy side in the solid body player's world, that's the gauge I use on electrics BTW, but regardless, I was saying I don't like the feel of them on that particular guitar, maybe cuz of the rollers, dunno but I use 9's on it and find they stay in place much better (on said rollers).
But hey, if 10's work on yours, awesome! Let me know how it takes the 11's though, I'm curious.... :D

I tried .11's on one tuned down a step (D) and it didn't work so well. So I'm sticking with .10's in E and they're fine. Although, I sold my '72 S-90 with the same bridge as an S-100 to Tyler Ramsey from Band of Horses and he had his luthier (and mine) set it up for C-sharp with .12's, so there are possibilities. It's just beyond my setup capabilities. Enjoy!

Thanks - I guess the extra tension works "for", and the fatter string dimensions "against". I'm quite enjoying the light feel of the 10s, but recently bought a 10-pack of d'Addario 11s. I'll see how it goes with 11s once I've had the re-fret done and set it all up.

I notice there is quite a lot of sideways play in the rollers (the 3 that are still properly mated with the threads). I'd have thought that to be undesirable, but I haven't really noticed any negative impact.
In fact, I wonder if the strings actually cause the rollers to rotate on the threads, or whether in fact they simply slide over the nice round profile of the saddles. I tried watching closely while bending, but it is hard to tell.

I love mine, though I agree, the flexibility can be daunting. I did a nice write-up of how I made it imitate a '63 bassman here: http://www.gad.net/Blog/2011/06/07/how- ... zers-tone/

The tone I get with my QSC K12 is just killer. I've been very impressed with it live.

I'm actually looking forward to getting an Axe-II. So many of the new features are exactly what I wanted.

Ah yes, I read that previously. Excellent post :D. I wonder how many other LTGers are AxeFX users.
QSC K12 seems to be the standout for FRFR, going on your experience and others.
Axe-II does look to be the bees' knees. I'm GASsing for one too. Deep breaths....

I have got an Axe-FX Standard as well. Having trouble with my MIDI connection - can't upgrade to 11.0 at this stage (talks with the editor though). I'm on the waiting lists for the AXE II.

Yeah, MIDI can be a pain. I tried for a while with a Chinese cheapie with inconsistent results and eventually bought a used MOTU Fastlane. I've been trouble-free since changing. 11.0 is a good upgdate.

I started a new topic for AxeFX users:

Hey Q! Long time no talk... how you been brother?
Ok, about this 10's biz y'all.... let me apologize for not being specific enough.... and for assuming everybody enjoys finger style play as much as I do on electrics.
What I meant to say is the E string (the .10) keeps popping out of the roller, when I finger pick.... (for instance if I try playing the finger style blues I have posted on the tube with the Gibson Firebird, I'll have to stop every 4 bars to put the E string back on the rolly bitty thingie.)
Playing with a pick on the other hand, works just fine with 10's, even though the E string (again) bends, feel much heavier on the fingers than they do on other guitars with same gauge strings..... anybody else noticed that?

I find all bends a bit hard, but am putting that down to the need for a re-fret for now. I do notice a lot of lateral movement in the bridge roller. I wonder if that is a contributing factor to awkward bends.
Any difficulty you have in bending the E string is totally non-apparent in your videos

Thanks to the 9's...
The other thing I noticed since you mention lateral movement on the rollers, (and I don't know if this might be corelated), is that the tailpiece is narrower than the bridge, making the strings on the edges (particularly the two E's) spread in a fan like shape before they reach the bridge.... I thought that might be the reason why this high E is so easy to pop out when finger picked. :?:

Yep, Blues, I have noticed this too. I still have the 10s on mine that Qvart had put on. I'm thinking of putting 9s on. I have 9s on my other 2 guitars...And yes, I love to finger pick too!

Fearless - Congats on Suzie. It is always a happy day to see a new s-100 owner!
