The merging of the Song Title threads made me wonder what the longest threads have been, so I wrote a quick script to list all threads over 500 replies:

Code:
+-------------+--------------------------------------------------------+
| reply_count | title |

| 5754 | Song Title Thread Part Two |
| 1960 | BGUF - Beautiful Guitar, Ugly Feet |

| 587 | Gibson Raid Redux |
| 548 | Post Count |
| 536 | Guild count thread! |
| 510 | ok then, what song are you perfecting right now? |
+-------------+--------------------------------------------------------+

The #2 item on the list kind of doesn't count since it's also included in #1, but that just shows how ridiculous #1 has become. :)

It also amuses me that the #12 entry is a thread about post counts and how few of the top threads have anything to do with Guilds.

I think I'll revive the "Guilds in the Great Outdoors" thread to see if it can crack the top 12. :geek:

maybe we could do a sort by join date if the records are complete...

Up until matsickma just because. :)

Some things to note:

  • User number 1 is reserved by the system (sort of)
  • User numbers are not strictly accurate as I modified them to make the report show the order of registration
  • User numbers would have been accurate with the 2005 version of the software in use at the time
  • 'letsdcom' is the original user that dklsplace used as a test user
Also, if you're at all curious, I would be #1435 on that list with a join date of 2009-02-11.

Parkinson's Law of Triviality clearly applies.

To put a positive spin on things, people want to contribute and most of those threads, when they remain on topic, require little or no specialized knowledge. Those are the treads that make LTG a community and not just a place to "ask the experts".

I don't know if I participated in any of these, but for those who get hooked on song titles it's also a way to boost personal post count.

Indeed.

Here are the top 10 posters in the Song Title Thread:

The "concern" over the Song Title Thread always amuses me! When I started it, I thought it was fun, and never thought it would become the divisive monster that it is.

If anyone cares, here's the two reasons I personally like it. When I do visit it, I like the challenge of quickly thinking of a song off the top of my head that "matches". What's the point of having a brain full of songs and never use them?

More importantly, occasionally someone will post a song by an artist I don't know, or just a song I don't know. It gives me a song or an artist to investigate. I'm going to give some props to Zelja in particular for leading me down some interesting musical paths.

Oh, and Tom - you're a stick in the mud! But that's why I like you...

Yeah, it got so big so quickly and I tried at first, then soon realized that there were really no rules and tons of repeats and I lost interest big time. Call me a stick in the mud. Go ahead, you know you want to.....

@davismanLV - You are a stick in the mud.

I have no idea what difference that makes and do not consider saying so a personal attack, which would require Moderation if it were so considered.

I think I have found more interesting - to me new - songs in that thread than anywhere else in last few decades.

One more post . . .
