...Guilds are something special. Just awesome 12 string guitars. Heavy, but unbelievable sound!

Not all heavy, if you mean weight. I have a '68 F-112 (first year of production, I believe) that is not very heavy. It's a mahogany F-30ish sized body, a little deeper. Very easy to hold and sounds great!

The larger body Guild 12s, the jumbos, are heavier yes.

I have a '71 F112 that is light as a feather -especially compared to my F412.

On a different but related subject....

Anyone know where I can get a case for my F112? When I bought it in 1973 either the shop I bought it from did not have a case or I was too broke to get it. I ended up with a generic drednaught case which only works because of all the towels I've stuffed in along side the guitar. I there is an old F112/F30 case out there that needs a guitar in it, I'm interested. I have a '75 F30 and the F112 fits nicely it it's case, even though its a bit deeper body.

I'll trade you a '70s F-30 case for your F-412? (that's a joke).

If you can find, or if anyone else has a hard case suitable for an M-20, I can happily trade away the F-30 case (I don't have towels in it, just a strip of foam to make the M-20 fit).

F 20, M 20 Cases

if anyone else has a hard case suitable for an M-20

Make that two M 20 cases. I bought this TKL case for the F 20, it's designed for a Martin 00. Nice enough case for the money but the Dimensions aren't quite right, it's like 3 1/2 % too large. With the strap tucked around the body it's a tolerable fit & the closest thing I could find after weeks of searching.

I'm having doubts anything affording perfect is available as a stock item. I suspect since these guitars were on the lower end of Guilds line many were bought without cases, & many, like mine, came with cheap cardboard cases. Please correct me if I am wrong. I'd trade this case in a minute along with some cash for a correctly fitted case. Might even throw in a Marxophone.

Probably have to buy a guitar on ebay with a correct case, switch cases & resell it at whatever loss to come out right. Seems kind of
"Not Right" . :?

Been tuning up the CO 1 while loading pictures, I have a lesson to practice. I must share the gleam in my instructors eyes when opened the case on the F20 at my 1st lesson. He asked permission to hold it, but merely as a formality, he was already reaching for it & had a tuning fork on it in seconds. 8) Fair enough, I was all over his Martins.

Thank you Sugar,

My lady gave it to me for Christmas 3 years ago. My life is good.

You remind us that we've not heard about the lesson?

I think there are some commercial sources for parlour-size cases suitable for the F-, M-20s. I'll look again.

we've not heard about the lesson

I'm quite humble about it. Not the least bit surprised but humble.

Turns out becoming the guitarist I aspire to be is likely ro take a little more time & practice than I might have hoped. It's all causing me some tension.

I explained I would be happy to play my limited repitoire (sp) my aim being to improve & embellish the tunes I know with basics that would apply everywhere. I have developed some pretty strong habits over the last couple years & I'm having to concentrate intensely on a more disciplined, structured approach,

Alternating bass for instance, it's a lot more pro sounding when it's steady & rock solid, not missing a root or a beat. Freeing up a finger to fret an open string & and working the melody lines in the right places & disciplined sequence. Memorizing new scales, in different chord patterns & roots takes me forever. Maybe I should have been a drummer, Jeez, there's a lot of keys.

It's working, Red said last night "I haven't heard that before, is that part of the lesson". I'm finding some of the melody lines I've been looking for, just slow business, directly proportionate to the amount of time & effort. .

3 or 4 hours a day till this coming Thursday lesson I might get a C minus

Excellent - and no kidding (for me at least) about a sudden application of discipline to what previously been a free-form sort of exercise.

I'll bet you get an even C.

Cases...

Newbie to the forum here. I've seen posts of several folks asking about cases. Reunion Blues has been terrific for me; soft, lined, leather cases that most airlines will check as a hanging bag. Not recommended if you're tossing the axe in the back of a pickup, but they've taken great care of my guitars for the last couple of decades.

Chet Atkins

Here's what I meant by discipline on the alternating bass. At last I think this is what I mean.

Chet isn't playing a guild, don't know what it is, but I'd switch loyalty today if it would make me play like this. Geezerosity sure is beginning to show in the music that turns my crank.

Jeff. Being a drummer actually helped me alot in this style. Just like you would seperate your legs from the rythem in the hands, you do the same with the thumb and fingers...only about 3 times harder i think. It sounds like your getting it...and way ahead of me. I find myself waking up with my thumb playing alternating bass rhythm. I dont know if my right and left brain can handle to much though. Only thing harder than spelling rhythm is keeping it.

Kentuck,

I'm not ahead of many,

Funny you should mention being a drummer, Two days ago when I was just not getting it I remembered a girl I dated in high school. She used to listen to me keep rhythm, tappin forks & spoons & pencils in time with the music of the 60"s. She said repeatedly, you should become a drummer.

Turns out that girl was loco.

Gotta agree with the Westenheimer. I've never heard of an F-12, either. Here's what an F-112 looks like, though, and it looks like a match:

http://www.vintagefret.com/pages/12258.html

Note the big truss rod cover and the lack of inlays - there is no Chesterfield on the headstock or position markers on the frets. It would help to see the back to confirm tonewood and open tuning machines. The F-212 is very similar, but I think it is rosewood, rather than mahogany. (Can anyone verify?)

>>>No, the F-212 is mahogany, also...at least both of mine are (mid-70s), never heard if they changed woods at any point.<<<

I posted an entry after playing a Taylor 12 last Tuesday. Short story - I didn't recommend it.
But there's a long, recent thread here titled JF55-12 Half Price Sale that includes a lot of discussion about 12's.

Is the 12-string GAS building up? Don't look here for sympathy. Go get that puppy.
