She's here!
Somebody tell me how to post pics!
First of all: MUCH better condition than I'd anticipated. A few dings here and there...the scratch by the pickguard is superficial...cosmetic, not structural. The crack at the headstock is smaller than appeared in the EBay photo, and if anyone bothered to read down to the Q & A at the bottom it was the reason that the seller reduced the price by half, down to $350! If this is a repair, and it probably is, then it sure appears to be a good one! A tiny bit of lift at the bridge--I can slip a piece of paper in just a wee bit. The bridge pins are chewed up pretty good...they'll be replaced pronto.
When I first unpacked her, tho...I literally start laughing! The strings...my gawd...I swear they must have been darn near as old as the guitar! I mean...just the cruddiest damn things you've ever seen! I didn't even bother tuning them up. Took' em off and polished the frets (NO fret wear...who owned this thing??!!) with some steel wool. Rubbed some lemon oil onto the fretboard just to make it look pretty. Slapped on a set of D'Addario PB 12's (I was thinking about 13 Med's but the bridge lift kind of concerned me) and tuned 'em up.
NO problems with the neck. Straight as an arrow and action at the 12th is 3/32 actually a hair lower.
I hit an E and then an Am, the chords I always use to judge tuning....
Please forgive my vulgarity:
Holy F***ing S**t!!@! This thing is a F****ing cannon!!! So I barred up and played a C and a B and then did a simple blues progression. Then I put down the medium pick and finger-picked some silly thing...and she was just stunning.
I am one lucky little bastard! I STOLE this piece of Westerly history!!! $350???!!! Oh MY GAWD!!!
So I have my guy check out the bridge...maybe talk to him about a new saddle, make sure the nut is spaced properly, etc...but guys, really I can play this guitar out tonight.
Heaven...I'm in heaven...finally got my Westerly D25.
Next up...gotta find a F40 something...how sick am I that I'm already thinking about the next Guild?
