We received 8" to 10" of fresh powder snow and it's just beautiful here. I love it after a new snow, so fresh and new. I can look out my window and see nobody and no houses which is just as I like it. It times like this I realize that I have been truly blessed. I think I'll stick around a while longer.

What is this "snow"? you speak of? :) We had one good snowfall but lately it has been high winds and/or rain that may or may not freeze. On the other hand, it did hit 71 a couple of days ago ;-)

Ah yes. Isn't it nice to feel a little morning buzz, just from looking outside?
Here's what I saw this morning peeking out the blinds at our back yard. Nice and foggy, warm Florida Spring mornings here lately. Already getting a little hot during the day though... not exactly looking forward to Summer! Believe it or not, it's a lot less lush than usual in our yard currently as all of our elephant ear plants, banana trees, flowering vines, etc. lost their leaves to the hard freeze we had at the end of January. Slowly it's all coming back though.

Looks pretty lush to me, mg!! But then I'm in the desert. Tomorrow it'll go down to freezing at night but daytime high's in the high 50's. It's been really pretty and sunny. Some wind. Yesterday, in the higher elevations out by Mountain's Edge and Summerlin it snowed. Not significant but enough for the kids to run around and enjoy it. I like snow as long as I don't have to go anywhere and I don't have to shovel it.

The quote below is from a skiing forum I participate in. It is a letter from an older, retired gentleman who is the father of the original poster. It really sums up my feelings better than I ever could.

"First significant snow of the season fell last night in Burlington. The air was cold, colder than I'd like. Now it's morning and time for me to shovel and then nurse my aching joints. But I would have it no other way (except to ban snowplows) for the simple act of shoveling forces me to once again enjoy the wonderment of life. Shoveling drags me out beyond the fortress comfort I call home and into a world we try so much to alter. God or no god, the universe is amazing.

With my dripping nose and frozen feet and fingers I am reminded that we struggle to survive like every other creature. Yet, we fail to realize struggle is just nature's way of telling us not to take anything for granted. Struggle is to enjoy, not to fight. Who are the fools? Those that rush to collect as much wealth as possible to live an artificial life cloistered from the natural world? Or those on their knees marveling at the quickness of a scurrying ant synchronizing six legs? I applaud man's achievements, but let me be among the latter. Let me watch the grass grow, the comet streak past, and hear the silence of the snow fall. Do not deprive me of a shovel.

You all have experienced the marvel in a child's face at their first experiences, especially when it's your own. And you think how privileged you are at witnessing this event. But the privilege is theirs. For they are awakening you to what you might have forgotten - the wonder of life and its simple pleasures. Heed their lessons for they know what you might have forgotten.

I had my first snake encounter today here in central NC. Flowers everywhere and trees showing signs of spring.

It was the worst kind of snake. The kind that sneaks up on you. I think it was a black snake and it emerged from the leaves where I was standing seconds before. I knew it would be soon based on the weather, but February is too soon.

Pouring with rain here today - so dark outside at 9.51am that my rooftop solar system is producing absolutely zero.

Single digits at night here, glare ice under snow.

Finally had my first fall the other day, a nice gentle baby fall, easy and painless, couldn't ask for a nicer fall.

Falling on ice is bad, be careful out there fellow LTGers. Last week, a neighbor of mine's 51 year old son fell on the sidewalk ice in front of their house and hit his head. Refused to go to the ER, but the next morning was all messed up, and he died the next day of a brain hemorrhage. Just talked with the neighbor yesterday, he's crushed.

Nasty winter weather is cool to watch from the warm confines of a house, with a fluffy blanket, my wife, a dog or two, and some warm munchies. If the result is a winter wonderland, I'll have to explore it with the one dog who likes snow and leave the other two behind.

That is a real sad story, a terrible thing to happen to your neighbor.

Ten years ago, I slipped on the ice. I caught myself before actually falling, which can be worse. A few trips to the chiropractor and I was good. I can remember telling my wife "this is the last winter in New England for me, and I meant it. She knew it. She's been involved in town boards for 30 years. I figured there would be some resistance, but there was none. She's the chairman of the budget committee, now she has all the meetings out of the way by Christmas. If by chance there needed to have a meeting after Jan 1st., she knows how to use "Zoom". Now she pushes me to go.

The day after Christmas, the tree comes down and out to the burn pile. The following day, we're headed to Coastal Georgia.

Really nice here too, highs near 80.

Not looking forward to full blown summer, though.
