Check out the bridge. I guess it is a bleed over into the B series basses?

Towards the end of JS production as we understand it Guild made a few "interesting" models. The hypothesis was that Guild ran out of parts before they ran out of bodies so in stock parts slated for the next generation were used to push the JS bodies out of the door. Serial dates to 1976 so this could be once since my recollection is is they ran out of bridges first.

I note "JS Bass 2 SB" on the label. The "burst" is not common in my experience/recollection.

@hagmeat 's JS II is a poster child for mixing and matching and for a long scale JS.

Single coils Probly sound great !😀👍
That’s a long scale so I wonder if the only thing JS about it is the body.
The neck could be a B series bass neck along with the harness and hardware. Is the pickguard from guild or aftermarket custom made?

@hagmeat has not been around in a while and is in Australia but previous discussions often referred to the bass as his so you could search on his handle and find what people believed several years ago :)

I don't think anyone raised the question of whether it was a JS or a B-30x neck or whether there was any difference between them. I don't think the stripe is a differentiator.

The hypothesis was that Guild had left over JS bodies and wanted to get something from them. In that spirit the pickguard may have been the cheapest way to wire the B-30x PUs and cover up any body work that had been done to accommodate the humbuckers. So the assumption was that Guild installed the pickguard.

Hagmeat's pickguard is original to the bass from the factory... similar to the S-90 pickguard, but not identical.

The neck on a long scale JS bass is the same as on a short scale JS bass. On the long scale, the bridge is moved waaay back, and there are less frets on the fretboard (as there is more space between each fret...)

Hey guys, I hope everyone is well. I'm still around and check in from time to time. The JS2 LS was sold a few years ago because the long scale was uncomfortable for me.(yep the pickguard was original)

I had a short scale '71 JS2 for a while, but I sold it after getting a 2013 Newark st Stafire.
The scale on those necks were identical.

I've also owned a B301 and SB202 in the past. The long scale necks on those were the same as the JS2 LS. I'm pretty sure the long scale necks were longer than the short scale necks. Yes the bridge was further back but the necks were longer.

Cheers,
Rob

Thanks for the info!
That makes sense since scale length is measured from the fretboard side of the nut to the 12th fret x 2.
Did you like the NS Starfire better? Is that why you sold the short scale JS bass?

that would not necassarily change the length of the neck, again, since the frets are spaced differently. Not sure that I agree with @hagmeat, as I thought this had been established previously. However it is great to hear from him!! and anything is possible I suppose

@lungimsam, I really liked the sound of the meatbuckers in the '71 JS2 but after playing a friend's NS Starfire I found that I could get similar tones with a bit of tweaking on my amp, and it is much lighter.

@mavuser, Thanks mate. I have some pics of those basses together on an external hard drive and remember the long scales being taller. I posted them on a thread here ages ago titled "Guild bass chronology" but my photobucket account is long gone. Maybe Frono saved some of them ?

Perhaps Hans can let us know ?

Ah I did not remember you owning both a LS and SS JS bass at the same time, and posting a photo of it here, if that is indeed the case than I concede I am wrong...however will leave the door open just a crack for us to possibly both be correct, as your LS JS bass was one of the last JS basses, and featured B-302 hardware, so possibly as mentioned above, the neck on the bass you had was maybe for a B-302 or SB-202 (although I know absolutely nothing about B-302 and SB-202 necks), and possibly the necks on earlier LS JS basses had the same neck as a SS JS Bass? Just not sure where I came up with that. cheers buddy!
