Thanks for the warm welcomes and the kind words everyone. No worries about the little jabs on the Novas, I understand completely! But you are all probably wanting to play one, so stop on by my place and turn up the gain! I promise I won't tell anyone!

Yes, I had a few X-79s at one point too. Hey, but I also had several very cool Guilds from the '60s (Thunderbird, Polara, Jetstar, Starfire, etc.). Thank you to everyone who bought a guitar from me! I'm still hanging onto a couple Jetstars because I'm a simple guy and the fewer pickups and knobs the better for me!

Hey Kent, I'm glad your happy with that one!

Novas are like youth. They're wasted on the young. I still have yearnings for a Gretsch Corvette like I played in my misguided adolescent years. It had peppermint stripes all up the pick guard. Then came marriage and kids etc.

It can work in reverse as well. A friend of mine had a teenage son who wanted a guitar, and the one he wanted was a B.C. Rich Warlock Tribal Fire.

It was great until the boy graduated from high school, moved on to the music program at DePaul and suddenly the guitar that looked so cool in high school looked embarrassingly out of place with his guitar-playing fellow students.

The Edge also had a great story about his Gibson Explorer, buying it and then being worried about what his U2 bandmates would think of it's shape.

Hey I dig those Gretsch Corvettes! Mahogany body / mahogany neck. Just one pickup so easy enough for me! I have one that was attacked by a previous owner by drilling the body for a Gibson style bridge and believe or not a Hagstrom tremelo like the ones on Guild Thunderbirds and Polaras, and then they hand painted it yellow with a brush! The workmanship was aweful, so I bought it to straighten it out. I am restoring it to be a modified Gretsch Princess for my niece. A guy named Jerry Sentell did a great job repairing and rewinding the pickup for me. Jerry also restored the bridge pickup for my '65 Starfire III to original specs and did a great job on that too. The peppermint stripe pickguards were a bit odd but I say that's ok because I'm a bit odd myself!

Wait till you see what else I'm building, you guys will really think I'm nuts!

Yes, I am working on that bass but that just isn't odd enough!

I have a few guitars in the works that I am building for myself. I'm sure no one else will want them! I'll post photos when I get back to them.

For now though, how about an early '50s Silvertone amp that was falling apart? I made new sides out of mahogany and covered the front, top and back in calf hide. This is my living room amp and my S-50 sounds really nice through this tiny little thing.

That would have to be a non-conformist, cool and um... shiny old fart

Guilty as charged on all counts. Also anal retentive, obsessive compulsive, structure dependent and a complete sucker for shiny objects. Cool is in the eye of the beholder so I check my bathroom mirror every morning. Oh yeah and I'm wicked humble.

Welcome, Rhinestone! Your restorations of the JetStar bass and that Silvertone amp sound interesting. I'll surely check them out when updates come in.
