Thank god our mods don’t need or use clubs or have to hide behind helmets and sunglasses.

I second all the great things said about LTG! I will look in at other guitar forums every now and then to see what is going on but have not felt the desire to join. I am a member at Mandolin Cafe though, which I do enjoy as well.

Owning a Guild can be a religious experience, that we obviously share. We do worship and praise Guilds, but it would be silly to be considered a church, of course.

This is definitely the most civil forum I've ever participated on, regardless of the subject.

I think a lot can be attributed to the size of the membership. For example, TGP is so huge that I imagine it can be a nightmare to moderate well. The other major part for the atmosphere here is definitely the active moderation. I'm hugely thankful for the great job the LTG team does here.

I appreciate the fact that the Mods moderate as I believe you should raise children or manage employees: Create an environment where they can succeed, then stay mostly hands-off and out of the way with occasional gentle course corrections as needed.

Civility works.

I was on the PRS forum for a few years when I had a PRS Hollowbody. I have to say it was also pretty civil and informative. It had a moderator who was a PRS employee and he kept it under control, but really didn't have all that much controversy.

Given the prices of some of the guitars discussed on there, it's a pretty civilized and relatively well-to-do crowd.

TGP used to be a very different experience. In fact it’s had a few major changes since its early days as a PRS forum.

I was a pretty big poster there for years but when the Harmony Central forum went down a huge influx of much less civil users happened and it became less fun for me. That, combined with a couple of seriously obnoxious mods (at least one of who is now gone), and now I pretty much just answer Guild questions where I can.

One of my continuous goals is to keep that decline in quality from happening here, but managing that many users is a very challenging endeavor.

Exactly! I was a mod on two forums. One was an easy job, the other... not so much (I could have used the helmet and club).

I have found on the net that when a forum is built around a specific interest that is somewhat outside of the mainstream, it tends to become somewhat of a "community". As many of you know by now, I'm a big Zephead...but I am not even a member of the official Led Zeppelin forum. It's too big, too many ill informed, too blind in it's own adoration, too much blah! I am however the #1 poster on a site for the last 20 yrs that is only partially public and caters to folks who are very serious about specifically live Zep...and scouring the earth for any new info, pics, audio, or video...and sharing it freely. Members of this site have liberated SO many recordings and video, it's not even funny. And many regulars go back to the days of early tape trading...often from/with the person who actually recorded the concert! Anyway...this site is 1/1000th the size of the official Zep forum, and it is absolutely a "community". I know LOTS of folks on a first name basis and have hung out w/ numerous members from all over the world. (I once had 4 members at my house for a night of cranking rare Zep, drinking beer, and throwing darts. One waslocal to me, another from NYC, another from Ireland, and another from Brazil!!) Folks share their goods (and their knowledge) freely. They go the extra mile to help out newbies, especially from younger generations. It just shows that a true passion shouldn't ever be guarded. It should be shared, and passed on w/ pleasure.

I joined here because of one guitar...one that basically fell in my lap some 35 yrs ago. When I got it it had a Gibson smile (snapped neck at the headstock) and the original cherry finish looked like it had been through a cat 5 tornado. I spend a few hours a day for the better part of a month rebuilding/refinishing this 66 T-100d, a guitar that I'd never seen or heard of before then, and would wind up being my alltime favorite guitar I would ever own! (Out of many!!) I'm not beholden to Guild, or their line of guitars. Most I honestly have little interest in. I'm just drop dead in love w/ MY Guild. When I stumbled onto this forum in late 2021, I just had to see if the same held true for others. It didn't take long at all for me to recognize the "community" that also exists here. Yes the mods captain a good ship, but ships are maintained by the sailors. Anyone can create a website/forum. Ultimately, it's shape, direction, decorum, and general usefulness is entirely dependent on it's members. THAT is the key to a real online community.

My quick take on LTG since joining. I came because of my guitar, I stayed because of the people!! (y) :D Simple as that!

Never been a member of any other guitar forum. I've lurked at serveral on occasion when looking for info. (Gear Page, Telemodders, Les Paul Forum, etc. I can find good info on all, but I have no desire to join and be a regular contributor. My days of sitting at the kiddie table ended a LONG time ago.

I have grown to love - ( I VERY rarely use this word in context like this - in my language we . . . . ) - this forum as a place with friends and civiliced discussions - information - joking - veers - you name it 🥁

Oh - and not the least - my guitar playing time has increased because of LTG - not too shabby 🎼

So - thank you - each and everyone. 🐾 Moderators and members - friends and "family" 😍

Yep, LTG is the best. I swing by AGF, too, but it's usually "Martin, Taylor, Martin, Taylor, with a lot of custom-made stuff thrown in. Sometimes talk about a Guild shows up there, which I'm looking for, but that's about it.

I am in agreement with most of the previous posts.
I am registered on UMGF, AGF, Santa Cruz, Gear Page forums and visit those on occasion. I have found that LTG is the most user friendly and just plain friendly as well as informative.
Everybody, please keep up the good work. It is always a pleasure to come in here and snoop around.
Thanks.

My first regular guitar forum was the Ovation Fan Club OFC but unfortunately it has become too quiet. That is a very nice community similar to LTG and included Bill Kaman who was friends with some of the members. I also used to be on AGF for a few years but after a while found the questions and answers too repetitive and when I had some limited internet access more than a year ago stopped going there. I still enjoy the Ukulele Underground forum.

Merlin,

Several of us met former OFC members, including Bill Kaman, at our visit(s) to New Hartford years ago. Good people!
