I've just recently begun participating in discussions on another Forum -- Classical Guitar forum. Taking into account that I'm new to that forum, I still find the LTG site to be very user friendly compared to the Classical Guitar forum. Thanks GAD (and whomever else) for making things so smooth around here.

My opinion:
Don't think you will find a guitar forum with as many members who have confidence in or really believe what they are saying will help - in someway.
The members and moderators have been kind and compassionate toward me.
And self confidence without kindness and compassion - is arrogance! Only guitar forum I belong too but read others and feel the arrogance on them - some more than others.

I've been on several instrument forums, but for guitars, LTG has been pretty much it for me for some time.

Some people posting on other sites -- at least the ones I've been on -- seem to have real axes to grind, and a "my way or the highway" attitude, where it's not unusual to encounter wild displays of anger and hostiity.

People here seem open to varying viewpoints, and are pretty forgiving when you say something stupid. (Mea culpa!)

I think it largely comes down to the moderators. The sites where pretty much anything goes, with the hope that people will simply police themselves, often turn confrontational and ugly. I rarely encounter that here.

Anyone here on the AGF when they had the Open Mic room?
ROFL. That was total chaos. And hilarity. Then they shut it down.
I go to AGF. The Open Mic room has been pretty tame. I don't know how it was before, but I started going there four years ago and it has been heavily moderated as long as I've been there. I find AGF to be a Martin love fest and that is fine, except I am a Guild man. So I prefer the Guild love fest over the Martin love fest. But I am over there pretty regularly regardless.

I do get on the Collings Forum, but that forum has all but fizzled out, whereas the Collings FB page is very active. Having said that, I do see arrogance in a number of FB Collings members, but much like here, you'd think Collings were the only guitars out there. On the other side of the coin, I will admit that if one is willing to spend $4500 and north on a guitar, in many cases it's because their talent level justifies the cost, and many, many of those folks are good, as in damned good talent wise. Sometimes the members there assume that newer members know much more than they actually do about Collings, but just like here, some people simply go there to learn, and at times I've sensed impatience in established members with less knowledgeable members, and I take that as a form of arrogance. Don't get me wrong though, there are some fantastic people on FB Collings as well who are more than willing to help and teach and won't hesitate to spend the time to teach you about the brand, or guitars in general.

This site, from the time Don started it, has to me been a place that nurtures people of lesser talent, beginning guitarists. Again, LTG certainly has it's share of talented players, but in my view, LTG has been every bit as much about enlightening and encouraging beginning guitarists as it has been about promotion or celebration of the brand. That was very evident in the Arlington gatherings as people of ALL talent levels came together and I actually watched very basic beginning level guitarists begin to learn, and some to become pretty accomplished, with some even writing their own music and performing it. To me there's nothing more rewarding than watching people learn how to do the things I love to do myself.

I do miss so many of the older members who've left this site for various reasons, and a few have even passed away over the years. The loss of those folks, either through death or that they simply stopped coming here does sadden me a bit. My attitude is that we can all get fed up with the state of affairs on a particular site, but instead of making a scene, or a big announcement that you intend to leave, just take a break from it......I did for about 2 years, and came back with zero animosity. LTG is a pretty good group, and it appears to me that GAD has taken the baton from Don and run pretty well with it.

This is the only site I contribute to.....apologies to all:p.

I do like to see what the other site members say about Guilds...and how well they think about LTG.

I suppose if I liked rosewood guitars I may have been more inclined to buy a Martin and hang out there but I've always preferred hog and maple.....and I don't think anyone holds a candle to Guild maple.

But yes kudos to da mods and the members.

Over the last 25 years, I spent a lot of time participating on a few sites and just mainly lurking on others (like LTG). But over time the dynamics of forums change and the ones where I once contributed were no longer fun (for lack of a better word) or interesting, and some become too chaotic for various reasons. LTG remained pretty steady since it began and still felt "fresh" in addition to being friendly and fun. So, instead of lurking, I began to participate here and switched to a more passive role on other forums (some I don't even visit anymore and some are defunct). I'm sure the dynamic and feel of LTG will change over time (it's only natural), but for now it remains my happy place in a crazy world.

Thanks for the love, folks. The other moderators and I try to be delicate, but we are hands on. We often strongly disagree about how to deal with the problem-du-jour, but in the end I honestly think we come up with the right answers -- especially when we decide to show tough love (which is pretty rare, mind you).

I think the experience level of our moderating staff and the truly unbelievable dedication of GAD to the site have set the tone and (most of) you have been awesome in creating a truly unique, caring community here. The important thing, which is perhaps not unique to LTG, is that we all share a passion for Guilds in one way or another, and that draws folks here and brings them to return. We mods make decisions to provide that welcoming (or welcoming back).

Anyway, lots of love back, at least from this long-term moderator. I love being here with you folks, and hope to continue with a long future here with this unique site.

Are you talking about the delcamp forum or a different one?

Thanks for the kudos!

For the most part the users make a forum and the mods try to keep things within the error bars of the target experience. My primary job is to keep the site running while trying to prevent this absolutely massive archive of Guild knowledge from being lost, trying to prevent the site from becoming the trash heap that so many other sites become, and to hopefully continue enjoying talking about Guilds.

Moderating is a pretty thankless job with a fair bit of conflict and negativity thrown in thanks to the nature of the job, so allow me to publicly praise the mods for keeping the place sane.
