Us Tacomites have been reaping the benefits by getting $1865 guitars for $799 all day long! I picked up a DM28 Mahogany/Spruce dred that has quickly become my all time favorite. I'm looking for a 5th Tacoma as we speak........

With little incentive remaining to promote Tacoma Guild guitars, what will FMIC do with its remaining stock at the factory and in dealer inventories?

Flood the market with seconds?????

Just read the story. Unbelievable! What a setback.

I guess some folks here will start to yearn for Tacomas :)

I think it's perfectly logical to assume that they could try to replace that business segment with Taylors along with (cough, cough) Fender and Ovation acoustics as well as GAD's.

Since this is all speculation, let me take the speculation further. How about this:

Taylor becomes FMIC's made in USA, high-end brand. The GAD series becomes all the is left of Guild and the Chinese-made guitars become FMIC's mid-price brand. Fender acoustics remain as the low-priced brand. And Ovation stays as the non-traditional brand.

Man, what a sad state of affairs if a salad bowl with a wood top and a few strings outlasts the Guild brand.

I feel like Fender is my abusive spouse who I keep trying to make excuses for even though deep down I know they're pretty evil. I love Fender guitars. . .bummer they don't love ANYTHING!

Do you guys think a letter writing campaign to Scottsdale would have any impact on this decision or do you think it's a done deal?

Mo, are you hearing that anyone at the Tacoma factory has actually gotten their package laid out for them, or is it just a threat at this point?

No threat. Out of 80 workers, 30 will stay on until October to see the move through and the other 50 whatever severance Fender deems appropriate. Maybe a Guild & Tacoma poster and some pickled Herringbone!

And don't let the door hit you in the posterior on the way out!

Sigh. Thanks.

Letter writing won't stand a chance.

I feel for the workers, a "severance package" is a far cry from meaningful work - I'd be wary of Tacoma Guilds built after today!

yeah, hang on to your Westerlies. :D

A sad day for Guild and for the crew at Tacoma :(

Question is now, what are they gonna do with the Guild name? Wasn't it only about 15 years ago those guys bought the Gibson Musical Instrument Co. for only $5 million? They made a great comeback on product recognition; Les Paul, J-45, SG, ES-335, BB King, Hummingbird, Gospel, etc. as well as their original line of mandolins of the "A" and "F" variety.

Will they manufacture US Guilds any more? If not, it sounds like a bonehead move to me.

It makes this NAMM pic all more poignant. Fare thee well, current Guild lineup.

Who even plays those Ovations anymore? They are way overpriced and sound like you know what compared to a real acoustic guitar.

I will cherish even more my Tacoma-made F-47, which is such a superb guitar I can hardly believe my luck in finding it, and my all time HOSS, my Hoboken-made D-40. I guess I need to go get another Westerly-made Guild to round out the collection.

I've been disillusioned with Fender for a while now, while being a die-hard Fender player. Now I can be a die hard Guild player disillusioned with Guild (and Fender).

I am not sure about this..... Yes i feel for the workers.... but....

I may work/live in the UK but i work for a large American company and have been directly involved in many outsourcing and strategic manufacturing deployments, and this is only my opinion, i believe these guys will continue to produce 100% quality until the day the doors close. Ok we all know about the mythical 'donkey' first build on a Monday, that is just one of those things but people who work in this site i'm sure take pride in what they do, its not like its a massive amount of people and i bet at least 90% of the work force have worked there for a min of 10 years and have faith and a strong belief in what they do is produce a quality product, lets not dis the brand or the good folks of Tacoma. Think about it..... you just never know, the last production of anything from this site could be the guitars we are all fighting for in 30 years to come...... keep the faith even if the owner starts with the 'F' word at least mfg is not moving to the 'F' east!!

Feel free to slap me down! .....

I hope that they can find work doing something that gives them a sense of accomplishment.

Nobody is going to bust their buns for a company that just pulled the rug out from under them, regardless of how right or wrong it is from the business sense. You've just gone from putting out some of the finest instruments made to the unemployment line.

F=East is already here.

Its all a mater of opinion i guess, but seriously.... what would it take to turn round and say.... we will buy out factory ...fixtures and fittings and full employee relations as well as licenses to produce as XXX approved by Guild and if smart inc (original electrics).

And lets not forget what the local govt would give you as an allowance to do so......!

Question is...... as Guild user would you buy a new guitar from here prior to this news and if so would you buy a guitar from here if built under a different name under license....

Stranger things have happened!

but would you invest the same $'s if under license?

I know if i was passionate and liked what i had purchased previously I would like to think i would re-invest regardless of the badge.... and lets face it ...would still be part of Guild history!
