I'd prefer the same weekend as Kurt - not that the chances are very high I could get there. But Sept 20/21 is simply impossible.
Markus
I vote for any weekend you and Sylvia can fly over from Austria! We haven't seen you two for almost two years...way too long.

I also got a reply, from Kim in marketing. I posted in the other thread in this section. Same sort of reply, but not as long. It does sound hopeful !

I'm probably about 90 minutes or a bit more, east-north/east of Oxnard. Never been there, but... maybe there is a reason now.

Evidently, there are many of us that have contacted Cordoba. Here is the letter I wrote, and their prompt response:

Congratulations on your acquisition of the Guild brand!

I bought my first Guild (a D-35) in 1975 while in high school. I still own it nearly 40 years later. Somehow, another six Guilds have followed me home in the interim, four Westerly’s, one Tacoma, one New Hartford and one GAD. The best of the bunch is the New Hartford F-50 Std.

Whatever you do, as you begin production in Oxnard, pay very close attention to how the guitars were made in Connecticut. They had it just right. You would be wise to hire as many of the NH Guild workers as you can entice to Southern California. They will reward you by making some of the best guitars made at any price. And your Guild fan base will have greater faith in the quality of your instruments, knowing that the knowledge and skill of the New Hartford operation is not lost.

I also encourage you to pay close attention to the Lets Talk Guild forum. There is a wealth of history and knowledge possessed by that devoted group. We wish to not only keep the brand alive, but to someday own a wonderful Oxnard Guild. May they be the best yet!

And here is the reply:

Hi Neal,

Thanks for writing to us! As you can imagine, we have been receiving a lot of questions regarding Guild’s future, and we are indeed paying very close attention to the Let’s Talk Guild & Acoustic Guitar Forums and the concerns of the Guild community. We are still working out a lot of the specifics, and will continue to share information as the acquisition is completed. We truly appreciate your patience and your support, and have every intention to remain true to the Guild brand.

Sincerely,

KIM WHITE

Oh that one's too harmless looking.
We need to find one o' them ones that show how the whole state is criss-crossed with faults like a guitar with really bad finish checking.
Oh! here's a good one:

AL!

How are we going to get anyone to come out, if they see the state has enough fault lines to be considered " Mojo " ?

( There seems to be a line pointed right at Oxnard,by the way. Let's edit that one out. )

California is not for the faint of heart!! You gotta take the RISK!! If it all goes horribly wrong..... I'll have beachfront property!! But most likely that will happen to the folks in San Bernardino...... damn the luck!!! :playful:

I'm near Victorville, so what is now the " high desert " would become very near the beach. Cal State San Bernardino sits right ONE the San Andreas. My wife had a geology teacher walk them to the back of the campus and put one foot on one side and one on the other.

I thought we agreed at some point to call them tone flames? :)

At UC Berkeley, one of the dorms sits right on the fault. Before it became a dorm, it used to be the school for the blind and deaf.

I also received a form letter from Kim in marketing, identical to the one posted above. Hopeful they'll do good things with Guild, as long as they are aren't hamstrung by terms of their deal with FMIC (as SAAB was when they were sold by GM).

Many years ago, the BBC did a documentary to show how a city such as San Francisco would prepare for a natural disaster that could reasonably be expected to occur at some time in the future. After seeing the city's dramatic LACK of preparedness, the BBC named the film "The City that Waits to Die". Publicity related to that film quickly resulted in significant improvements in building codes, intended to increase the likelihood of buildings not collapsing during a quake.

Synopsis here:

New Hartford is much more stable, re: seismic activity!
