gilded, Good points all and you got a Duane Eddy?

Back around 1980 I let my friend Bruce play it with a capo. He slid the capo up to for a key change and cracked the finish on the neck binding. It has since split and shrunk, so my bad.

I was not aware there was binding shrinking on the body, never noticed anything like that other than around the headstock and the back binding between the two IRW halfs raising a bit.

The bridge was rock steady always. About a year and a half ago I took the guitar to a shop in Atlanta since the action was getting high and the pick guard was lifting off. They repaired (glued) the loose neck binding and pickguard, leveled and dressed the frets and took down the saddle as much as they could. They may have shaved the top of the bridge. I could not tell nor did I ask.

Excellent point as to the material used by the other New York companies. I was not aware so I will ask how they plan to repair and warranty. Very usefull stuff.

Yeah, I was thinkin' Bruce was probably behind it  Actually, I don't think cracking the finish is the root cause of the cracked neck binding.
That's something that happens on a lot of Guilds. It's usually heat and/or age related. I'd still try and see if they'd split it with you........

Yep, I got a Duane Eddy DE400. As my LTG friend Darryl H sez, the 'Plainer Duaner'.

So.... I asked them to go ahead with it... 2 to 4 months estimated repair time.

Report: The binding around the waist was starting to come up so they plan to just glue it. No dice & slice acording to my local authorized guy so no need to replace... that would have been recommended were it so.

The bridge stays as I don't recall it ever needing work.

I have some "before" photos but have not figured how to post on LTG.

Got a brother in law is Nashville (3 1/2 hour drive) so I plan to visit and take some photos at the custom shop while they are working on it. Should be interesting.

I'll keep you people posted.

Got it back last Friday! They replaced all the binding, reset the neck, glued up a brace, refret, new nut and shot and blended some nitro over the bindings and nut. Except for the MOP inlays top, back and side woods, I would have thought they gave me back a new guitar instead of my 75.
She is a little stiff and needs some playing to rebreak in, but thats OK.

Fantastic deal fore a 34 year old warrenty repair!

Thanks for following up with us, Spectrum. I'd love to see some pictures if/when you have a chance to do a little photo shoot. I think you're one of the few people who's had a vintage Guild repaired directly by Fender recently. I'll bet your guitar got a lot of attention in Nashville. And, indeed, your cost of repair for all this work was unquestionably subsidized by your warrantee -- clearly it paid off for you.

Anyway, congrats, and may you have many more years of trouble-free delight with your F-50R. I do hope the sound opens up for you. Definitely do some string experimentation while she gets played back in.
