Some of the best harmonies ever from these brothers.

But, in this performance I can't help but think these two were have some bad brotherly vibes that day. Watch around 00:40 and 01:25 when Don takes over the vocals and seems to push Phil out of his way.

It's well known that the Everlys didn't get along well. They often traveled separately while on tour, and each had their own business lawyer and manager, etc. They broke up (the first time) while performing at Knotts Berry Farm, with Phil smashing his guitar onstage and storming off. By then they were an oldies act, playing thier old songs, not having had any hits in years.

One of the best shows I ever saw was their second U.S. gig (on the Boston Common) shorty after they reformed. They were fierce, loud, aggressive, take no prisoners -- their hearts were totally in it.

I saw them a few more times after that and while they were still good (and the harmonies still to die for), the shows by then had become somewhat rote.

There are some cringy to disturbing studio outtakes floating around, not recommended.

That live version of "Cathy's Clown" on youtube though, The Crickets are the backing band. I have played that seven times in a row sometimes. It's as good as music gets IMO.

If you like the Everlys, tonepoet, give these guys a try:

Minnesota, Nice sound and vocals. I listened to the first tune and will listen to the rest later. I see some Guilds being used... the Starfire Bass and there's one shot where you can see a Guild "silhouette" label inside the Guild acoustic, which may date that guitar back to the late 50s.

Thanks for the tip!!

Recently there has been a PBS documentary on the Everys, during the WGBH (Boston TV Channels 2 and 44) "public TV" fund raising...this must be out across the country??

One of my favorite Lefty Frizzell recordings. My Dad played his records in the house when we were kids.

No, not at all. 😞

l did get the chance to see the brothers when they opened for Simon and Garfunkel’s “Old Friends” tour. Older, but those impeccable harmonies where still there. A perfect example of how 1+1 = 3. Magical.
