Hi guy's,

I'm back on deck now !! Thouroughly enjoying my old F30, it's a great guitar, plenty of vintage vibes and a wonderful sound. I really cant believe how great this thing sounds !! Anyway I'm a bit stuck finding out when and where it was made. My serial no is A1 2771, label says made in Hoboken. From what I've been able to find out so far:

2271 was the last serial number from 1969, according to the Guild site.

There were allegedly 150 F30's made in 1970.

2749 Has a Hoboken label but was apparently made at Westerly using up the last of the labels, and is from 1970.

2887 Has a no place name label, was made at Westerly 1970.

From this information it would appear that mine is from 1970, made at Westerly using up the last of the Hoboken labels, but this doesnt tie up with the 150 made in 1970 bit of information !!

Anyone have any more information to add to the confusion ? I'm assuming the Guitars are numbered sequentially ?

Cheers, Ian

Hello Ian,

There is no confusion re. where and when your F-30 with ser. # AI-2771 was made.
It was made in Westerly, RI in 1970.

I do not know who told you 'allegedly 150 F30's made in 1970' but if somebody told you that, he was definitely misinformed.

However, I do remember some recent correspondence I had with a person who had an F-30 with ser. # AI-2759 and he had several questions about it, quite similar to yours.
I did tell him what I knew about the manufacturing date and I also told him that my personal records show that after his guitar ( with serial # AI-2759) at least 150 more instruments with the AI-serial number prefix were manufactured during 1970. Is that where the '150 F-30s' number comes from?

If that's the case, your problem would be solved!

Sincerely,

Hans Moust

Hi Hans,

Thanks for that, yep that's probably where the confusion arose !! So mine was made at Westerly and they were using up the last of the Hoboken labels ?

Cheers, Ian

I don't know about that particular model, but maybe there are some date stamps to boot? (neck block, underside of the top). That would make it even more interesting!
