I'm just curious. Besides the cosmetic changes, what is the difference between the D-60 and a D-55, for example?

I own a Gruhn/Walker D-60. They weigh less than a D-55.
They have a more slender headstock than the D-55.

I can't say they sound any better.

I don't know if it was Guitars of Montana or Guildzilla who left this
in the case for me. But from this product literature, it looks like Guild
wasn't making D-55's in 1989.

Dunno. It's a mystery to me. Maybe Hans Moust knows.

This was also in my case when Guitars of Montana sent it back to me.

Nice D60 Marcellis! Those ads are actually showing a D66.

Even the ad that says "D60" is a D66?

The mystery gets more mysterious.

Did Guilds make D-55's in 1989?

If yes - why were they left out of the ad?

If no - when did production stop & resume?

Is the D60 in the dreadnought ad a D66?

Yep, it's showing the larger fretboard inlays and the slightly wider headstock of the D66...

Uh huh...

Did Guilds make D-55's in 1989?
It seems that according to the serial number chart they were built in '89 but not '88...

You're right about the headstock. Definitely wider than my D60;.

One thing I like about the D60 is its narrower headstock. I don't like
the big canoe paddle headstocks.

Maybe those adverts someone put in the case were from 1988.
My D60 is a 1989 according to its serial number.

The narrower headstock is the "more standard" Gruhn design.

And the D60 is the D66 and the D66 is the D60 . . . depending upon the year. And then later, the D60 is not the D66.

Yep, apparently they went through various changes. The D60 that I had was a very different guitar from the D66 that I presently have... both awesome guitars!

Man, I wish a description like that would work in Part II.

Sincerely,

Hans Moust

I'm sure there's more than instance where you've felt that way.

Take solace in the fact that someone, somewhere will have to explain why Martin has produced ten different versions of the D28 (HD28, Golden Era, etc, etc)
