:x :x :x :x :x :x :x :x :x NEW ZEALAND accent, thank you.
Keith was born In New Zealand & feel free to lay claim to him but came to Oz at a very young age & definitely has an Australian accent - easy to tell as he says all his vowels correctly... :)

He has perhaps, one might say, a vastly more refined accent than is typical of Australians. That will be because he was born in New Zealand.

From his bio:

"Urban was born in New Zealand and began his career in Australia at an early age"

I've always seen him described as "Australian" - my bad if that's not where he got his accent. I wouldn't know the difference anyway - my accent is from Massachusetts!

All is good, W. Yes, I can detect that Massachusetts inflection. :)

Nah, that's just the flu.

Threre seems to be a lot of that going around.......people speaking in accent and slang to cater to whichever group they happen to be "playing" to.

Yes, we need an example. Just plain good singing..... Suzy Bogguss - Outbound Plane

Now that's just plain good singing! And she's not hard on the eyes either.....
I like this one better. Less production value and it's just Suzy.
Easy on the eyes, indeed. 8)

I almost posted that one, Joe. I struggled to find some "classic" Susy Bogguss..... and I went round and round and then realized..... is there really any BAD Susy Bogguss? I think not......

The point here is that you'd be hard pressed to find a more "country" singer..... but she doesn't sing "country". She just sings. Here's another one that's a classic. A touching and sweet song and Suzy just SOARS on this song. http://youtu.be/x0WY9Xh8ltE

I guess that we're Suzy Bogguss fans, is clear, eh, Joe??

No doubt about that, Tom, and Larry's piling on, too.

Here's another version of Aces that I like more than the first.

I'm a lyrics guy and I like my music clean, simple, and uncluttered. Beautiful lyrics and a great voice with simple accompaniment.

Works for me,

Steel,

I like that GFI. I think I might get one because it's about the lightest thing out there. And Bobbe Seymour swears by their tone. I figure if a guy who likes Emmons and Sho-Bud likes the GFI tone, it's got to be good.

I hate it when people exaggerate the "twang". I'm from the south, and had guys that I went to school with that talked fairly normal, then the next year they wanted to be "country" so out came the twang. I don't mind a southern accent, but just hate the twang. Probably the reason why I can't stand contemporary country, but don't mind bands like the Drive by Trucker.

Australia and New Zealand are in the South, aren't they?

I tend to find my southern accent gets heavier depending on the physical attractiveness of the woman whose company I'm sharing at that moment. The purdier she is, the more noticeable my accent becomes. Or as Conway Twitty would say, "Hello Darlin'":
