Alone for a week, am I hopelessly antisocial?

Wife gone on vacation, I'm watching the fort.

We have two cats now, another showed up, in heat too, and there's plants to water.

I don't mind the alone time, in fact it's the most soothing thing in the world.

But now I'm thinking about the end of the pandemic, and how much I liked that psycho noisy people couldn't come in the house.

I think I'm going to miss that.

Having an excuse why everybody had to stay out. To me it was heaven.

Come over when the weather's good, hang out in the yard, but the house was totally off limits.

Am I beyond help?

Ma Dread was in Mexico with her sisters for three weeks recently. Same going on here, held down the fort, hung out with the dogs, didn't have anyone over. And played my instruments.

The huge majority of my time is spent at home with Don and the parrot. I read a lot. I love my quiet time. I do like certain people and I have some of the best friends in the world and it can be difficult to find enough time to see them, without over socializing. Maybe every other day, we usually go out for happy hour somewhere and engage the world. It's fun and I really enjoy it, but it's AWAY FROM HOME! That way, when I reach my saturation (usually 2 to 3 hours) I can say how nice it's been and retreat home. I rarely ever have people in my house. My house is my sanctuary and when people invade you lose the control of being able to escape home, because you ARE home. So having people over is a rarity. Even with people I like a lot. My niece and her guy met us out a while back and when we returned home they came inside for another drink. After being out for 3 hours, then sitting in the living room catching up (how much is enough?) for two hours more for a total of 5 hours together, I got up and grabbed their empty glasses and said, "Well, I'm gonna wash up these glasses but I'll walk you out to your car before I do." And they left, but that was just too much. It was exhausting!!

So I'm good with limited socialization on my own terms away from home with the ability to terminate the visit when I reach saturation. That's worked really well for us for many years now. Also, because for some reason people want to see your house and where you live, I've learned to make plans for them to come early knowing that we have plans to go somewhere or reservations somewhere, so then we have a quick drink or coffee or glass of wine and then, "Oh my look at the time we'd better get to the restaurant soon!" and hustle them out.

Some people love to entertain. I'm not one of them. Meet them out somewhere. Someone else can cook, serve, and clean up and you can leave when you want.

Yeah but that's when you got so bored with being alone that you put yourself in a-fib so you could go to the hospital and socialize, right?? :ROFLMAO::LOL::ROFLMAO::eek:

My wife is like that - she does not wish people to enter our house - except for some ! ! ! - and yes - we do have party evenings w up to 12 people and everybody is happy. I could happily have friends and more or less strangers sit in our living room - but I respect my wife - and therefore many visitors only see my basemenet electronic gear space via that door . . . 😂

Guilded - are you beyond help? - No need for help 🐾 you're doing just fine 🥁

You? No, you're perfectly normal. By comparison, I have a sign on my front door, about 6"x8", that says (in ALL CAPS and aposematic coloration, which I'll spare us here):

Do Not Disturb
No Sales
No Politicians
No Religions
No Surveys
No Donations

. . . which works like a charm. An Amazon delivery driver once asked me where he could get one; never judge a book by its cover.

All is not lost. Just tell people you "tested positive". Most will leave you alone or depart without asking "tested positive for what?"

When my wife and daughter went on vacation, I ordered this. When they returned, they didn't even notice. :p

So as I mentioned another cat showed up, and this one unspayed also, maybe sisters, anyway it was in heat, wailing half the night, acting like a little tramp, had our cat who's recovering - you can still see the shaved area - from spay surgery all freaked out like "OMG, what is wrong with you, and why don't I get like this anymore?", all puzzling kitty questions to be sure.

This is a really neat looking ring tailed tabby cat. When the hair on her back stands up defensively, the fat part of her tail puffs up to like 3" where it's not ringed.

We've offered this walking cat factory to several people but no takers yet.

I don't want somebody who lives in the deep woods and is always gone, the cat wouldn't last a week.

The neat thing is they're both girls, and they play, and there's never been one growl and they don't spray, after a couple decades of male cat ownership, I'd been looking forward to this, and the kitty god/dess delivers.

Also to note, while our cat tries to sleep and eat all day, this one kills rodents all day, big fat ones, eats them at the door but leaves nothing, not even a gutpile, really admirable ;]

Stripes the wife calls her, I haven't come up with anything significant yet. I'm kind of a one cat man and the black kitty is so sweet.

This is the new cat drinking from a sled leftover from winter and knocked down by the wind. Then on chair on porch, this is a really sweet cat for a stray, I can put her on my chest/shoulder and she starts to purr but will jump off pretty quick.

She's never come in the house except once by accident after dark, I let the wrong cat in.

Wants to come in and live the good life like the other cat, sleeping on the bed...

It's very unfair, but I feed it when it lets me know if it's desperate, it will climb all the way to the top of the screen door.

And here is Sheba, stretched out on the bed with her belly healing. I think it's gonna be three feet of cat when it's done growing.

No.

You simply need to come to understand and accept - as I have - that some of us were made for social distancing.

And we excel.
