A focused sound

In many discussions, particularly pertaining to acoustics, I read the term "focused" to describe a sound quality, as in "That guitar has a more focused sound than that one".
What is a focused sound?
Should I round up my guitars and have a "focus meeting"?

No disrespect (as they say in NJ)

Re: A focussed sound

Strong fundamental with minimal overtones. Think mahogany or maple rather than rosewood back and sides.

Re: A focussed sound

Understood, thanks...
And I think I just won a new LTG record for the shortest thread ever.

Introduce a veering topic that is so completely unrelated as to be painful and this thread may go on for months. Something like..."I remember records. I still have several vinyl albums. I am on the hunt for a turntable (since I was foolish enough to get rid of my killer '70's era Pioneer). Speaking of vintage stereo systems...

(Regarding an earlier topic, I have absolutely no idea what a *focused* sound of an acoustic guitar is supposed to sound like. Even if someone explained it to me, I am certain I cannot identify it after 2 glasses of wine.)

Nah. There have been many threads that never got past the first post. Try this but please don't revive one just because you feel sorry.

Shirley Eujest says:
A flatback D25 (or a D40) is "focused".
An archbacked D25 is not (someone once said "It quacks").
Don't ask me how I came upon this insight. It took me years.

Hey, we're all here to live and learn.
Couple of weeks ago, I didn't know cracks were the big Guild's craftmanship "secret".

No, I said "quacks", not "cracks". You need to focus.
And BTW, have you been to a dermatologist about that sunburn?

Don't mock my accent and my short attention span, at least be kind enough not to do it on the same line.

You changed your pic to wearing a Hawaiin shirt. On that note how do I post a signature image; the same way as an image in a message?

On a related topic I think I have the idea of "focused", just never heard the word before. A Guild rosewood 12 string is not so much focused, but its got a great sound regardless. I do concur that maple does respond in a "focused" sense regarding tonewoods.

Well, it seems that you've lost your bid for the shortest thread.

What was this about, anyway?

as an answer but I also hear people use 'focused' to describe a guitar that projects well or can be heard as a distinct entity when played with other instruments.
