My wife loves puzzles, so one is always an expected gift for special occasions. I bought her a new one recently that was missing a piece. She called the company to complain, and they sent her the missing piece. How rare is that? 😀

The missing piece. Not a new puzzle, just one piece.

Where did they get it? Did they find it on the floor and save it for when the customer called to complain? Or did they take it out of the next puzzle box, so now that one has a missing piece?

Didn't they ask if the dog ate it?

Found it left over after boxing up all the puzzles and waited for the lucky buyer to call.

We had a single missing piece on a previous puzzle which led to some disappointment only to find it several weeks later in Mrs Mushrooms dressing gown pocket.

My grandmother, who worked puzzles daily, believed that you should pull out a piece if there’s only one missing. The two would ultimately find each other.

I questioned if they would make it back to their box. She laughed.

Yes -- just the one piece. They had her take a picture of the missing piece, and email it to them. They also used this as an example for quality control with their vendor who manufactures the puzzle. Apparently, it was something that was starting occur often. Amazing, right?

The company just happened to be local. In order to get the puzzle in time for the holidays, they let me pick up the puzzle at their facility. My wife was thrilled because it was a pretty cool puzzle of an Oregon entymologist-turned artist whose exhibit we had seen at the Portland Art Museum. And yes, those are real bugs!
