... because B.B. King and Eric Clapton wouldn't sign a fake Guild.

Here's the website where you can acquire many guitars with famous brands and famous signatures.

From their website:
Are the signatures on my item guaranteed to be authentic? -
"Yes, every item purchased from us comes with a Letter of Authenticity, guaranteeing it to be authentic. Each item has been authenticated by a 3rd party authenticator(s),
and the user of the web site accepts the validity of the authentication at the time of purchase, and no other opinion of the validity of the autograph’s authentication is acceptable, or negotiable for any kind of consideration."

Now there's a guarantee you can trust!! :ROFLMAO: ...No one ever went broke underestimating the intelligence of the buying public.

Well, there you have it - you need to question the validity before the purchase!

I've always felt guitars with artist signatures should be worth less, not more. I mean, heck, they've been defaced.

But that's jussss me. /:

Well yes and no, but those multiple Las Vegas based businesses sell fake guitars with fake signatures, that's the real crime!

Wow! "authentic," "Authenticity," "authentic" again, "autenticated," "autenticator(s)," "authentication," and "authentication" again.

That's pretty darned authentic!

Yeah, and "authentic" doesn't mean "genuine original". It means it's a licensed facsimile of a genuine autograph, which is legal although presented very deceptively.

It occurs to me maybe the market for autographs knows that and and don't actually care so much about the instrument?

I'm pretty sure that my 1934 Guild Stratocaster flat-top, which is signed by Johnnie Guild himself, is totally legit.

Make that jussss "us". We're a minority.
Don't get me wrong, I can appreciate why someone would want (and cherish) an instrument legitimately signed by an artist they admire, even consider it an heirloom piece, a trophy, a joy... but I don't want a Sharpie scrawl on a guitar even if it does say "Bob Dylan" or whatever, I'm too OCD about instruments, and I don't buy/sell collectibles for profit.
Different strokes, of course. For instance, I admire John Lee Hooker a lot, always have, big fan, tons of respect for the man, been to the Boom Boom Room countless times. And I like an Epi Sheraton, too. But this kind of thing (attached pic) doesn't quite work for me.

I'm surprised anyone still gives out their signature in the form of an autograph these days.

Honestly, I don't think I have that gene that makes me prone to idolize anyone. I respect artists and accomplished people but I don't experience any excessive thrill by taking a photo with them or getting an autograph. Maybe that's a little weird but it really works well for me because I find myself in the same room with big stars almost on a weekly basis. My hobby is working as a background actor and casting companies are constantly giving me featured parts where I interact with the principal actors. Directors are comfortable with me because I don't look like a deer in the headlights.

In my 64 years I've only gotten one autograph, Archie Manning, when I was in grade school. Also, John Scofield autographed a CD for me without me asking before he realized I was his backup act, lol. But I accepted politely.

I got an old classical that has Jr. burned into the body inside with a branding iron, and a '59 Supro that has Russell neatly painted on the front, so I guess I do have a couple autographed guitars.
