Well I did it from India. I bought a Guild X 700 Benedetto Stuart 2004 jazz model. This is my holy grail among several holy grails oner the years. I am still committed to trading my D60 with Rich Peterson for his SH 402. What a blast during lockdown here in India. GAS is a rare disease. Rarer than COVID f***ing 19.

Wow, cool! Congrats! I can't wait to see some pix and read your review. Jay Pilzer and I used to have philosophical discussions as to why it was (or was not) a good idea to take an expensive, carved solid spruce top and then cut holes in it for pickups and controls. It seems counter-intuitive for good tone, but clearly it works for jazzbos. And you know the Benedetto re-design makes it a cut above. :)

Bruce, not to hijack your thread but how often do you see a email from the person that designed your new guitar? (And congratulations on it, where are you having shipped to?)

Back in 2013 I received this email to The Guilds of Grot:

Hello Kurt,

While searching for wood on the internet, somehow I landed on your
website. I'm also an old Guild fan and just want congratulate you on
having such an impressive collection. I enjoyed seeing all those old
guitars again ... great photos!

Keep it up!

Very nice! I saw one on Reverb recently and thought about it. I have a non-Benedetto X700 and would love to have compared them but I really need to get rid of some guitars before I spend that kind of money on one. Can't wait to hear about it!

I’m guessing this is the one Rich is talking about? If so well done! A proverbial time capsule. Holy grail indeed.

No that's not the one. Though in comparably mint condition I got mine for a whole lot less. 2004 Serial # CBB1000011. Pics and review will have to wait my return from India where I am stuck-- no flights on the horizon.

Well, you have given yourself many exciting future thoughts and mind pictures. Wish you get it tomorrow.
Still pulling for an exit sooner than later.
Congratulations.

Hi Kurt
That's cool to get an email from Bob B. I'll have it shipped to Charlottesville when I get back -- hopefully soon!

Man oh man. There is a guitar that would get me out of bed early every morning and keep me up late every night. I sure hope you get back home soon Rich.
