I just noticed that the binding on the neck has come loose from the nut down just past the first fret. What would be the best glue to use to repair it.

Thanks, TP

First of all, don't do anything until you have a satisfactory answer. The 'press-out' or 'seepage' from some glues can definitely mess up your finish!!!

That being said, don't think I'd use super glue. If I remember correctly, that's one of the problem glues (for this particular purpose; works great in other areas of repair).

I'll call my luthier and get a better answer for you. May take a couple of days, but I'll have something for you. If I'm wrong about super glue being on the bad list (it's possible, I turned 57 last Friday!), I'll let you know.

Again, don't do anything until you are sure you have the right glue for the job!

Hello TP,

Here's a step by step tutorial by master luthier Frank Ford (Gryphon Stringed Instruments).

Regluing Plastic Binding

He shows different techniques for different scenarios and yes, he does use cyanoacrylate on one of his quick repair techniques. I used cyanoacrylate on my X-150 on the middle bout with no issues. However, be very carefull as this stuff is not forgiving on finishes and will have to be buffed out if it dries. You can protect the finish with a wax paste near the binding to prevent the superglue from adhering to it. If you go this route, and the binding is seperating but not completley off, I would recommend a low viscosity super glue found in any good hobby shop, or maybe a well stocked hardware store. Be carefull, the stuff runs like water at this low vicosity. The advantage is that it will run in between the gap due to capillary action. This was applicable to my reapir as the binding had not come off completey.

Good luck with your repair!
