Joaquin,

Welcome to the forum. You have the right idea i think. I like restoring Guilds to original equipment. And I wouldn't want to make changes that would prevent the guitar from being restored to original.

I make exceptions and compromises, but only if the guitar is in less than excellent condition. For example, I put a Bigsby bigsby on my '56 X550. I believe any bigsby on a 1950s Guild can't be original. On the other hand, if a 1950s Guild was retrofitted in the 1950s, it would have a Bigsby bigsby because Guild bigsbys weren't made until the 1960s.

Also, I'm going to have a black pickguard made for my yellow Guild tele, but the original can be put back the way the guitar was originally.

I'm also going to put white DeArmond dynasonics and a Guild bigsby on a 1970 starfire 4 because some were made that way. But this guitar has already had a neck re-set and a re-fret and is generally worn and very played.

What kind of music do you play?

Thanks for the comments. I know, I'm not eager to change p/ups either. The guitar is almost perfect shape. I prefer to keep it as original as possible. I just want the jazz tone I hear in my head. I happened to hear some latin jazz just last night on FM 93.9. The guitarist had the exact tone I'm trying to create.

I'll go with the Thomastiks and other strings first and only do the pups as a last resort. I have a Washburn J-6 and a Dearmond X-155. I'll experiment w/ the pups on them first.

I really don't want to get hit with a purse. Ouch!
